The yellow sally with a green frog pork rind was a go-to lure back then. When I bass fished with my grandfather as a kid, he almost exclusively used a nip-I-diddy and spin-I-diddy. What do ya mean, "back then?" I have those in my tackle box and still fish with them. Those are proven lures, and much different than the gimmick lures in this thread.

I didn’t know they still had them on the shelves. I was sure glad when they finally went to rubber frogs. Those pork rinds were hard to mess with some times.

You can still buy a Snagless Sally from BPS, but the nip-i-diddy has been out of production for a while. I have several, but they are old. I keep one on a rod along with my Plueger Supreme casting reel and use it in the pond. I have another that I use just regular fishing. I have more confidence in it than any other topwater bait that I use.

Preacher, do you have a Yellow Sally or do you have a yellow snag less sally? This is a yellow sally weighted fly with a hildebrandt spinner added. This spawned the Hildebrandt Snagless Sally. This one is from probably the 60’s. I still have a couple in the original package.
