I would bet 50% of tax money gets stolen or wasted. I'd bet over 80% is unnecessary if government would stay in their lane. Government should never be the biggest employer. I bet you're right. DOGE it!

So much for this proposed bill. This proposed bill switches everything over to a national sales tax of 23%! That would be on top of our 10-11.5% that we already pay here. Phuck that plan. I just bought a $6000 shed, after tax $6600, 23% would also be about $1500 extra. So despite the savings on the income tax, this deal overall is worse. A proportional consumer tax is what is needed and it sounds like they are just throwing a 23% number out based on what they feel needs to be generated in tax revenue which is ridiculously high. If they can create a consumer tax that raises as you purchase a more expensive product (think Kia vs lambo) it will generate more tax revenue than is currently available. Also it would end the days of paying someone under the table or having a cash only career.

The real problem is the debt
We’re at a trillion dollars in interest now
That’s ridiculous.

That theory should be fun to watch since they have hired so many employees in the last year.

Also it would end the days of paying someone under the table or having a cash only career. That sounds good, but the problem with that is the volume of bureaucrats and accountants nationwide that would be needed to enforce, collect, and do the accounting for it. I can see that system being very easy to defraud. Reporting of price sold verse actual money collected we all know is a time honored tradition of tax avoidance. Also, you run into the arbitrary nature of stepped up and down taxes. A big price tag for one guy is not a big price to another, regardless of how much money either guy has. I may think $10 for the same widget is a bad deal, you may think $100 is a good deal and we might both be in the same income range.
