Almost looked like the deer’s tracks were straddling the blood trail and with no recovery I’d have to guess it was shot in the snout or maybe in the neck? Or maybe he hit the ol sack? That’s a good bit of blood for one to not be dead.

Slaughtered a cow then poured blood on the ground out of a bucket.

Some of y’all are close……Its just a guess but IMO its likely a jaw shot…..It probably happened due to the deer having its head down feeding on a quartering away angle and the young hunter yanked the shot…..I think the giveaway is the “S” pattern in the stream of blood on the ground……That’s likely coming from the deer’s head moving slightly back and forth…….I’ve tracked two jaw shots over the years and the first one looked really similar to this….We knew it was a jaw shot by the teeth we found in the field…..It was shot in the afternoon and we jumped the deer the next morning but it just wasn’t weak enough to bay up yet……

Must have been a 6.5 or 243. Lol.
That's a lot of blood for not recovering. Dang it.

When we got to where that first one I tracked had spent the night it looked like a scene out of a Quentin Tarantino movie……There was a stream of blood like that making figure 8 type patterns all over the ground and trees and bushes where it was pacing around in an area about the size of a big living room……Its crazy that they can lose that much blood

Dang that’s rough. I’m guessing that deer will die a slow death

Coyotes will probably get after it and pin it down in a water hole somewhere

Low and to the front, likely in the brisket.
