It will outperform the 7 mag with a 6" shorter barrel, hold 2 more rounds in the box, won't require a magnum size action, and will have at least double the barrel life.

pressure is basically "free" performance, assuming your case can hold it. I predict the future of the cutting edge of cartridge design will be focused on high-pressure case design and powder formulas that will be best suited to it for years to come.

I don't have a dog in the fight, but I think it's important that accurate information is consumed to form an educated opinion on any subject being discussed.

Explain double the barrel life please.

As I mentioned earlier, barrel life has nothing to do with projectile speed or pressure, it all about how much powder is in the cartridge, relative to bore diameter. 7 BC has similar powder capacity to 280AI, so it will have similar barrel life.

I should add, the rate of fire can also have a significant impact on barrel life but that’s a variable that we’re not comparing here.

Destroys the 2nd and 3rd laws of Physics if one were so inclined to bring science into an ALDeer discussion. . .

I know I’m taking a big risk here by actually trying to have a meaningful discussion on aldeer, but can you explain what you’re asserting breaks Newtons 2nd and 3rd laws?

Don’t tell me you guys still believe it’s the actual friction of the bullet that causes barrel wear???

I really do hope the round lives up to the marketing and hype. I was being a smartass with the physics statement.

No. No it won't. Heat and pressure plus volume erode a throat are you telling me a cartridge at 80k chamber pressure is gonna be the same as one with 60k or less? One thing is nobody that buys this chambering is gonna ever have to worry about throat erosion because folks that buy this shoot maybe 20 rounds a year so they will never shoot out a barrel because this ammo will be unobtainium eventually 1000 rounds is more realistic barrel life on these. If they figure out a way to reload these it will be even less barrel life because we push it to the extreme. The accuracy of these isn't great anyway so it won't take much to turn these into a 2+ moa rifle and if you know someone that's been testing it and isn't getting paid to write an article about it you would see. I hope like hell this cartridge works and can be reloaded I mean who wouldn't want 3k fps out of a 20in barrel with good barrel life and availability of reloading components but right now it's a pipe dream.

Let's ask about the magic dust powder to get that 3k out of a 20 inch. Super slows like the 8700/H50bmg's? Or they just added more to a 4350/4831 speed? My noneducated Aldeer powder burner goober guess is the latter cause I'm not sure you could get 3K with 50bmg/870/8700 in 20 inches even at 80K. Barrel life of 1000 rounds sounds okay with factory ammo but you give me 80K to load with even with best loading practices and moderation in rate of fire I'll be sending your shot out metal tube back to you inside 600 rounds. 80K remains 80K. Stupid laws of physics.

Skinny is my EX.Alcohol was involved.

I just need them to make this magic case in a 308 so I can launch a 130 grain Barnes 3500fps out a 20 inch barrel

We will burn that bridge when we get there

3300 fps with 155 grain terminal ascent out of a 22" barrel and less recoil than both 7 mag and 7 PRC. If the accuracy is there, this one will be a winner.

Edit: 11 makers already offering rifles chambered in it.

I haven’t seen any stellar accuracy reports yet (some under 1 moa, but many are 1-1-5 moa at best) and you’re right that higher pressure can equal higher heat (PV=NRT) but in firearm barrels the duration of the heat is more significant than the temperature it reaches. The best real life example is 7mm rem mag vs 280AI. The 280AI has significantly higher chamber pressure than 7 mag, shoots the same bullets at nearly identical velocities but has more than twice the barrel life because it’s burning less powder at a higher pressure to achieve the same result.

I wonder why they have not published velocities out of 24" or 26" barrels. Assuming increasing velocity with increasing barrel length, this thing would shoot faster with a 155 gr bullet than a 257 Roy with a 115 gr bullet. Maybe this cartridge does not see any mv increase with a barrel over 22".

Commercial powders will be the next hurdle for them to overcome. Reports so far (IIRC from RCBS) are that federal had to develop new powders to get this performance and there isn’t currently anything on the commercial market that will give factory performance. Will have to wait for an equivalent of that Fed canister powder to be tested and released for commercial use.

I doubt we'll see that because it would be incompatible with unmodified gas guns on the market.

Just don't interest me. But i already have a 7mag, 7mmstw, 7mmprc, and a 28 NOS

My howa .308 w/ 20" barrel chronos at 3140fps w/ that load. It surprised the hell out of me.
