1 Jan 1964 I was two weeks old. My grandmother came to help my mom out. My dad tells the story taking my grandmother to the train station in Birmingham so she could go home. He said it took 10 hrs round trip to go 20 miles.

I remember the snow we had in 73 in Crenshaw County. Feb 10, 1973 - Crenshaw County: 15.8 inches Snow RecordsNice info! Covington had 12" that year. I would love to see that much again at some point!

Model I saw showed 1.6" if ice in south georgia. If that happens the pine trees there wont have any branches and power will be out for weeks.
I dont care about snow but I dont wish ice on anyone.

I dont care about snow but I dont wish ice on anyone. This part of the World does not do Ice storm well at all. That is always my big concern when this kind of talk starts. In 2010, my wife was in Montgomery, still in the hospital after having our new kid. I came back to Luverne to feed pets and square up the house. The snow/ice came in , and roads got closed. I was trapped here and she was ma. Since then, I have never been allowed to forget that inconvenient weather is my fault.

Why could it never happen? It has before. 🤷🏼♂️
But I do agree that seems a little aggressive. The models are getting a little hairy for next week so we’ll know in a few days. Has it really snowed a foot of snow in South Alabama in one day?? Good question. I remember the one 10 years or so ago was enough accumulation to cover roads and woods good for several days but I don’t know how much it was. I’d guess maybe 6-8 inches max?? I remember it started snowing hard at deer camp late afternoon in Brantley and kept snowing hard all night into next morning. It seemed like a lot of snow for S. AL but not sure it was close to a foot. Yes, twice in the last 20 years since I have lived here. One of those days was the birth of 3rd kid, so I remember that one good in 2010 February. Both were not a verified true Foot of Snow, but that is about what it was in the right spots. The other was a few years after. Before that it was "The Storm of the Century" ('93 I think, correct me). It was 93. I had just graduated college and was living out the term of my lease in Montevallo. The ditches had snow drift several feet deep. I think power stayed out for about a week if I remember.

I was in the same situation Ned except I was in an apartment in Tuscaloosa.

Montgomery County is two counties North of the Florida state line, yet WSFA weather reporters call it central Alabama. I always thought that central Alabama starts around Chilton County.

For the millionth time ![grin grin](/forum/images/graemlins/default/grin.gif) , north Alabama is above Birmingham, south Alabama is below Montgomery. What's in the middle in central. I think calling either Montgomery or Bham central Alabama is up for debate.

Sumter is correct. I was in a 17 inch blizzard in arky - area just like central bama. People in country were without power for about 6 weeks. Tree limbs breaking due to ice sound like a rifle going off. Lots of damage! Hope ice steers clear!! Can be very bad and we not use to driving on ice. Folks were fighting over generators in the wal-mart parking lot
Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self We need prayer for our country now more than ever
