I don’t prefer older pigs whether boar or sow. I’ve had younger ones, think 10 to 40 pounds that were good.

They can be. Depends. You couldn’t pay me $100 to skin one though.

Good. Make sure you cook all the way through. No rare pork. Too me 85-125lb sow is the perfect size. I gut shot one the other night and when I walked up on it there were worms or maggots all in its guts. Turned my stomach. Think im done eating them.

Smaller is better. IMO

I love the rut. The woods are like a bunch of roided up meatheads fighting over a girl.

I only do a "poacher's cut" on hogs. I'll get the hams and shoulders. Forget old boars, they are tough as nails. The shoulders smoked can be quite tasty, but it depends on the hog.

80-125# is some fine eating. I can clean a wild hog in less than 10 minutes, get shoulders ham and backstrap and never have to gut it.

Wear disposable gloves (nitrile) and be cautious if you have any cuts on your hands - Brucellosis.

They are OK to eat - I don’t like dealing with them and normally just feed them to the coyotes and buzzards.

Agreed. I don't fool with the shoulders though.

My family prefers it to venison. The small ones are good. Most folks that I know leave a boar laying where they shot it unless it was shot in a trap. Then, they just drag it off in the woods.

Are you processing it? You might want to know more than just processing deer or you better had stayed at a holiday inn express lately. Are they good to eat, yes. Do I prefer it over pen raised, no. Pay attention to what some have said about the good parts and using rubber gloves. My advice, kill every one you can, keep and eat the small shotes.

We like them, and have gotten good at cleaning them finally.
No worse than a deer for us now.
