A good friend and the best deer hunter I know since George Mann has passed on, apparently fell out of a stand this afternoon. His phone butt dialed his wife because he couldn't reach it. She went to a neighbor and they started a search. The landowner's son heard him moaning about a mile in the woods. Long story short, somehow his stand malfunctioned and it looks like he fell. I told my wife this doesn't sound right because I know him and when he has hunted with me he always had a harness. Perhaps he was getting in or out of a loc on. We don't know yet. All we do know is that his neck is broken in a couple of places as well as his back. He does have some movement in his extremities. Prayers for Johnny Ray Harris and his wife Krystal. Wonderful people. When people ask about how you can stand to live in Selma it is because of people like them. JR is truly one of the nicest guys in the world unless you ask him where his secret hunting spots are. Then he'll shut you down in a heartbeat. And that is just on deer bowhunting. Don't even get into turkeys with him. He's hardcore to be so nice otherwise. Anyways, prayers are appreciated and I'll let everyone know when it is determined what happened so it can be a lesson for the rest of us.
Valley Grande area of Dallas County BTW. It used to be called Summerfield.
