You a better man than I am for letting 120 inch deer walk in alabama

All about objectives. It’s quite easy. We’ve let deer way better than 120” walk. It brings me more satisfaction letting one walk than killing it, because a 120 don’t mean anything to me, but it might for someone else. I certainly don’t have to be the trigger puller to get the enjoyment. It’s a great day watching a 120 - 130 walk away. I also understand there’s a lot of hunters out there who’ve not killed a 120, or very many of them. Everybody isn’t at the same place in this journey.

My Dad is 66 and has only ever killed 1 buck. A very small 5 point. He doesn't hunt a lot, but he does hunt. It's just never came together for him. He was as thrilled with it, as most people are with a mature one.

Careful. She’ll grow up to be a trophy hunter and whine, gripe and complain about everybody else.

Exactly

He took part in dressing it, went to the processor and hunted with me the next day and we saw a bunch of deer. I dont particularly like kids a whole lot but he was a joy to be with all weekend. He told his mama it was one of the best weekends he ever had. I showed him the deer me and Joseph have killed and told him now hes in the game with two points. He said next year he would kill one with more points. I sure wouldnt give that weekend up to let that spike grow a year. Joseph started out with a spike too, hes passed deer this year alot of people around here would have killed. Theres more than one way to skin a cat

Good job Mr. Walker, that little spike is just as important to that little feller as if it were a new state record. Some of my fondest hunting memories are of young hunters getting their first deer on my property.

We all at diff places and areas. I hav not shot buck in camden in 3 season - if i wait 10 seasons i prob dont get a 140 and i not shooting one there this year so it will be 4 seasons next year

Had potentially my first ever 130 on camera this year in clark - aint seen him in weeks. Doubt he makes it to 140 and since it would be the biggest i ever shot - prob would not let him walk. I would tell anybody to shoot the biggest they ever shot. Kind of duffus to let biggest u ever shot walk
One year i had like 6 mature n clark and next year one made it. I prob had 8 mature this year - record year. I aint shot but one. Would not be surprised if only 0-2 make it and they may not
Some areas get 140 easier than others !!

Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self

It is exactly about objectives. Im 59 and come from the time when we killed anything with a horn and killing a doe was frowned upon. Then killing a doe with your bow was a trophy. I’ve been the guy in clubs who paid my money and saw others pay the exact same and never do any work and when hunting season came they brought the entire family and guests and killed all they could. Then I started buying little places and leasing bigger places with friends, that brought on a lot of the sane problems because by then I was trying to kill big mature deer. Even my friends had sons and guests and girlfriends that every year they killed young bucks I had watched. It bothered me but not enough to lose my friends over. Now I lease a little land and own some pretty good land and just hunt like I want and if I take people I tell them to shoot what makes them happy and sometimes they kill a young one. It’s all about not being selfish and just trying to have a good time to me now. I can certainly understand how guys in a club with no children or guests that do a lot of work and pay money can get frustrated when they are in a “trophy “ club or lease.

We can still be friends but you don't get to hunt anymore. Kids are capable of so much more than we let them be.

Amazing how that works.

I think a big thing for me was the camp experience. Our hunting sucked as a kid as it was more common not to see anything than we saw stuff. Being at the camp with my Big papaw or both my dad and big papaw really made it fun which is why I wanted to go so much.

I agree with a lot of the points above but the lack of pressure that was put on me to shoot a big buck or shoot something helped continue to make me want to go. Just make it fun for the kids!don’t just make the hunting aspect fun but everything about it. Simple stuff as dad would stop at subway on the way down which I never got to eat other wise etc. I really can’t wait for my son to get old enough to go!

This is the answer if you want your kids to love to hunt.the fellowship part is the biggest deal

We will burn that bridge when we get there
