I have had pics of this deer for 4 yrs, very hard to catch up with. He has daylighted very few times on camera and I caught a glance at him last season. Otherwise all night time. My question is age, my son says 7 because he has pics of a very similar rack 5 years ago. I think he is 6. [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image]

How old was he the first year you got the pics? 🤣

Seriously he would be easier to age 4 years ago.

It’s irrelevant whether he’s 6 or 7 and anyone who tells you with certainty they can differentiate between the two is a liar and deceiver. 😉

Then as far as you know it's four years. If you want a more precise measurement, you need a tooth.

It’s is irrelevant to us, I wish I had the old pictures but they were on a memory card that’s MIA. I can assure you there is no lying or deception.

Once they're past 5 you does it really matter. And like MBrock said, no one can accurately judge in the field when they're that old. Only way to do it is with years of pictures.

No what I’m saying is if a biologist tells you that deer is one age or another with confidence he’s full of it. Only way to know for sure is a lot of pics from a lot of years to age any individual deer that old.

Gotcha, I’ve got a few from last year and these, he is a good buck for my area but so far very hard to catch up with.
