Two things for country gas stations. Their contracts with suppliers suck, and they may only have one or two suppliers to choose from. Then they some extra money top cause they are the only gas station around.

Some cities have added gas taxes, I believe is the reason for the disparities.

Drove by 7 gas stations all less than 5 miles from the interstate and those away were cheaper. That is the ROC. They have the right of convenience.

Gas stations get away with so many violations only because the ticket man likes the lady that smokes outside by the smaller than they should be dumpsters. They only look like small dumpsters because of the overflow. That is the ROC. The ticket man could write up the dumpsters, but its the ROC bureaucracy that really loves convenience. Even Elon cant DOGE the ROC, he likes it to. Also, Its Mr. Patel, he's a nice guy.

They probably don’t own the stations but lease from the gas company. They take the gas money but only keep what the store sells. I looked at buying a station and all you get is the contents and rights to use the building for handling their fuel. It was like 3-5 cents a gallon for the store owner. They set prices accordingly to their neighbors. Drive down a street and wqtxhbhownrhisncirner matches that corner burn5 miles down the road til be different. Also a few vent in taxes here and there between cities, counties and states matter.
