42 l. Had 2 bucks killed on the property I hunt this year that were 140. 2 more at 130. I have 3 mounted that range from 120 to 140. Killed several more that would have scored higher than any of those, had they not been missing one side. The more deer I kill the less I care about how big they are. I like to go hunting. I like to see deer when I go. I like to shoot a few every year. Hunting they way I do accomplishes those goals.

Killed one good buck this year and a really good one last year. Killed 213 pound 6 year old year before those that i had followed for 3 years!! Guess i am fortunate - watched nice 3-4 year old tonite. Hav my share of mature

I do think the boyz n hood pressure my deer and slow me down a lot with their pressure and hamper success but i light years ahead of where i was in clubs. My neighbors other than the hood i drive thru (they not myneighbor - they only own their yard) seem solid! Solid deer lease and i watch some of same deer year after year.

Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self

Something has changed and I haven’t nailed it down but when I moved to my place I could watch at least 5 bucks from 120-140 in the hay fields (at dark in the summer for several years in a row) 5-6 yrs ago.. now never see em ever… If they want to shoot little bucks shoot em, just don’t bi**h to me about not having any “mountable” or “older” bucks to shoot…I’ll keep shooting doe does doe’s

I don’t care what a person chooses to shoot but don’t shoot every spike you see then complain you don’t have any good bucks. My father-in-law has to be one of the most trigger happy people I’ve ever met. We’ve all been there but usually grow out of it. We I don’t call him a hunter. He’s just a killer. Says it’s for the meat but he and the mother-in-law barely eat deer meat. He just can’t stand to pass one up. Gets aggravated when I let deer walk. He’s 79 years old so I don’t bust his balls too much because I think he figures every season, and every deer, may be his last. I just don’t understand why he runs cameras so hard then shoots a doe during rut, or a spike.

In a lot of places, it’s tough to grow older bucks if you only have a small parcel of land. It’s probably easier in areas where you have bigger tracts/leases… the more people who have to keep on the same page, the more difficult the task.

In the 90’s early 2000’s we had way more deer. And way more bucks too. We could shoot every buck we saw and never put a dent in them. And nice bucks too. Now that people think they have to shoot all the does to make the herd “better” there is maybe 1/10 of the deer we had and far less bucks too. I have had to adjust and be a little more selective since there are less to go around now.

Funny thing about all the people who need them for meat. All they take is the hams and backstrap!

This one’s behind my house, he’s somehow made it to what I’d say is pretty mature. I can basically hunt 3 acres back here. Several around us shoot everything they can and that’s fine with me, if they happy fire away. My point is they don’t all get killed just because everyone shoots everything over a corn pile, some still survive to get some age on em. I’d love to have thousands of acres to manage but I don’t have the funds for such a project as I’m sure most don’t so just enjoy what ya got and shoot what makes you happy

Thats not true from what I've seen

I blow the shoulders up I dont even gut one . Why would I spend that much time as a average hunter for so little extra meat

We’ve never needed it for meat but I do enjoy it and make use of as much as possible and provide a good bit to folks who don’t hunt but are always asking for some deer meat.

I have noticed a few things on our farm over the last 18 years. We shoot 8pt and better and we shoot does. Farm is roughly 850 acres of bottom, fields, and mountain. Our neighbors say they do the same.
We are not flooded with 9pt and up bucks. I usually get a few 10pts on camera every year and last year we took a nice 10. This year 3 nice 8pt s taken. We do not bait, one neighbor does. I bet u will find that u have larger bucks coming through. I have found that if I have a camera getting a lot of smaller bucks I then put a camera within 50yards of that camera but in the thickest stuff I can find. Almost 100% of the time we get larger bucks on that camera. Our bucks just work the fringes of high activity areas. Worth trying.
