Nothing wrong with the way it's done now. Some you have wild dreams about what it should be and what would change it when in fact it would do absolutely nothing to bring whatever fantasy you have to reality.

Exactly
How many people on here wanted baiting to be legalized
A damn big bunch did!!!!!!
I argued against it along with others.
Now it’s others fault and not the hunters jumping up and down wanting it!!!!!!!!
Falls under “careful what you wish for, you just may get it” I was baiting deer with food plots, tinks 69, standing corn, standing beans, acorns, comere deer, deer cocaine, some kind of apple jelly stuff and whatever else I could hide from the game warden, as were most hunters, for a long time before they legalized feeding deer corn during hunting season. I really don’t think it’s that big of a deal.

If bait and cell cams were not a thing I think a good majority of folks would quit, because they aren’t good enough hunters to be successful without the help. Yep. It turned a lot of folks into hunters all of a sudden. I was hunting before bait and cameras and killed bigger deer then . I was hunting when it was a major crime to kill a doe . My bait grows out the ground all over the cutover . I never killed a good buck out of a tree stand . Only cutover . I been blessed .never used scents or non the fancy cloths or scents . Just go hunting . I work in woods every day . If u spend as much time as I do in woods you will learn the deer . The corn just let everyone else kill deer with no skills whatsoever beside money to buy corn . I use corn to trap hogs . Hasn’t made any difference in deer hunting for me . Sad times when a hunter has to bait to kill a deer .

Then quit bitching about it if you view it the same. It’s not the same as a field that is planted. Use is different and spread out on a field versus concentrated to a spot and time.
Quit being simplistic cause it’s not.
Too many studies indicate that a feeder versus field are not the same in use Yes both are artificial in actuality but opposite sides of artificial.
Personally, fire will affect more acreage and be more beneficial. It’s spread out across a vast area and not the same as a bait pile but will attract game animals.
Hunting has changed so much in my lifetime it’s gotten to the point of being comical. In 40 years we’ve gone from just starting to climb a tree to high dollar shooting houses watching a plot with all the amenities and we wonder why it’s becoming boring.
Instead of solving the mystery of the woods we’re waiting on tall tine big boy sob cause he’s our No1 hit-list buck!!!!
Trying to solve the mystery is what it once was. Now its instantaneous action we want

I know a dude who baits corn and if the deer doesn't drop in sight he's calling in the dog without even looking. Both seem like shortcuts to me. Sounds like he's a little short on woodsmanship skills.

I know folks who won’t go look for a deer if it don’t drop. That’s so frustrating. They think that every deer shot with a 7 mag or 300 WSM should drop and if it don’t it was not a killing shot. No telling how many deer ppl like that have shot and wasted deer due to ignorance and lack of putting any effort in tracking. Honestly, they don’t know any better, because they’ve never had a mentor.

Sounds like he's a little short on woodsmanship skills. Not necessarily. Gut shot, liver shot those deer need a little time to die. Guy may like seeing a dog hunt.

What yal are complaining about is the natural trend in everything man does. Travel, electricity, housing… it’s advancing technology. It’s the path of mankind since we were kicked out of the garden. We used to ride horses. Should I call yall sorry non hunting yuppies because you use a tractor to plant food plots or a chainsaw to manipulate habitat. Oh you got to use a drip torch to kill big deer??? I remember when you used to have to wait on lightening to start a fire. You use a climber instead of limbs? Non hunter.
Do you see the point in trying to make? Yall are older and don’t like change. I imagine this is how cowboys felt when their world started to change as well. Every new generation brings change Sometimes it’s good sometimes it’s bad and it depends is the most nuanced part of it. Psychologist deemed the latest generation’s as the light switch generation. Instant on and instant off. Lack of patience it is. Also look how overloaded kids are today as parents and grandparents hover over them and live vicariously through them. There’s gonna be some real social issues downstream. Psychologist have deemed this generation as helicopter kids as folks hover over them and make decisions instead of allowing the kids to grow on their own

Comparing natural food sources like oaks or browse to corn. Once you have as many feeders dispersed thruout the property as oaks and browse then there is not as much difference basically. A feeder is usually stationary and refilled. Oaks and browse I reloade showpwrully very year or so very other year. A greenfield is a much larger area than a feeder and is available 24/7. A feeder is available at a certain time and it’s usually in conjunction when the hunter wants the deer to be conditioned to feeding
The concentration and timing of deer is NOT the same

I have no doubt the wildlife (in general) is benefiting from corn. We have bucks now that look like October bucks, slick and fat, does too. Turkeys, squirrels, coons, DOVES, never seen so many. The wildlife looks like they’re benefiting from it, but I don’t need it. I’d be fine without it tomorrow. Suits me
