Yall keep bitchin about a three month season and we'll end up with a three week season.

That'll really start the bitchin.

Easy fix for that. End all the special seasons. End bow season, muzzle loader season youth season, dog season stalk, season. One start date one end date. kill them how you like.

Totally agree let it run. Kill em how you want. If you don't like rifles don't use one,but don't cry about someone else enjoying a God given right to choose how they hunt. If we're wining about seasons I don't like dog season ending January 15th.
We have 10,000 acres we are a dog hunting club we should be able to run till the end. No matter how you hunt it's your choice instead of crying about how someone else hunting different than you we should join together to keep our rights.

If it's the right three weeks for my area , I'd be tickled with that. BTW, counting bow season , deer hunting is within a few days of being 4 months long.

Which is ridiculous.

I would like to see a shortened season as well. In my area, Start Saturday before Thanksgiving, shut down Saturday after. Reopen 26th of December and end Jan 31. All weapons, with corn, cameras and the bows and muzzleloaders as good as they are, no special seasons are needed for weapons.

Weapon of choice would only work with an extremely shortened season because success rate with rifle is much higher than archery., albeit crossbows have gotten pretty darn lethal. Personally I think you have to unwind the part of the southern hunting culture that says “less than a limit” was an unsuccessful season. Age structure improves with increased hunter selectivity.

And this post is directed at “that guy” who is gonna post a 2.5 year old basket rack to Facebook on FEBRUARY 8th with “Whew! I finally tagged out!”

Our deer hunting is as good today as it was 12yrs ago when we got this place. We don’t kill as many deer as we did back then because most of us now only kill what we need and just enjoy being out here. Right now we only have 11 deer on the book. That by choice. If we see the right ones, that number will increase. If not everyone is happy.

Then they would want to shorten the overall season. I’m all for the long season and bow season was put in place to limit the success rate and that helps enable these longer seasons. But with the prevalence of these high spec crossbows it’s almost like a rifle. If you can see em you can kill em.

Had to check the date to see if this wasn't a thread revived from years ago.

I don't think the rifle means as much if you don't have good glass on it. A scope that allows you to kill later than what just your eyes can see is what gives you an advantage. If you take scopes off the table, I'll just change tactics and use a shotgun.

We killed some nice deer in zone D when we had February hunting. Bucks start daylight moving for food late in the winter.
