I’m supposed to be picking up around 1200 acres in NE MS. It’s in Tishomingo county. If you were going to be taking over a lease of that size, how would you manage it from a hunting pressure standpoint? What are some things to think about when taking over a decent sized acerage like this? I don’t know if I’ll bring anyone else into the mix or not, I’m considering keeping it for just myself and a friend of mine to hunt. The goal would be mature bucks by any means necessary. Fire away with ideas

I believe you already have the general idea.

If it’s all in one block and been leased before you for hunting, has it been dog hunted, or is there a dog club close to it?

Start with a deer census then go from there I'd probably bring in a management group if I had that by myself

I would find out how the neighbors are managing theirs. You can only do so much on a parcel that size, if your surrounding hunters' policies are different than yours

First thing I'd do is charge up my battery packs and go buy a pallet of corn

It has been leased for stalk hunting previously. I don’t know anything about the neighbors yet.

If you can afford it by yourself, I would do that

Just remember you're leasing and don't OWN it, so try to at least get some enjoyment out of it.

Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

Low pressure low pressure and more low pressure don’t hunt green fields but maybe 5% of the time and low pressure. Finally low pressure

1. Find out what the neighbors are doing
2. Try to figure out your sex ratio/density and have a doe plan
3. Do any habitat work you can within lease rules
4. Lay out your plots/ houses/ stands to keep pressure down
5. Use electric buggies/bikes
6. Use trigger restraint.

There’s a million other things. Honestly I would get Matt to do a site visit. If he don’t know what he’s doing he at least will make you think he does 🤣

Shoot every single deer on the place and re-introduce the Michigan genetic deer after that

You and a buddy could hunt a good bit and not pressure 1200 acres. You get by yourself and you may not hunt whole thing!! Ideal. I hold a spot back on 256 - 1000 would be awesome. With good neighbors - and just you - now that could get easy!!

Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self

First find out how long do you expect to get to lease it. If not long term you could be wasting your time. Then just hunt and killed what makes you happy.

All you need to know is. Dead deer don't grow!
