I’ve got a couple of black copper maran hens. Very docile, not flighty at all. They are 3 years old and have slowed down dramatically on egg production. Layed great for the first 2 years.

all i can say is - after “experimenting” - the best decision we made with our flock is to go all heritage breeds
i wouldn’t trade our Rhode Island Red, Dominiques, and Orpington hens for nothing
if it was good enough for the pilgrims, then it’s good enough for me
