My buddy was an American Airline’s pilot for 35 years in the Washington DC area and told me this morning that he had made that exact same flight many times. He thinks that when the helicopter pilot received the message about the incoming jet, his eyes were focused on a different jet. He added a bunch of technical reasons as well that I didn’t understand. Same thing just said by an interview on Fox; there was another plane above the one impacted. The military comm is on UHF and commercial on VHF frequencies which the tower is addressing simultaneously. The copter pilot did acknowledge visual on the aircraft on UHF channel.
