Once you're on VFR approach it's all in the pilots hands. The Blackhawk (although I've never been in the cockpit) would certainly have more advanced avionics. But when you're in a low altitude, low air speed, flight path it's extremely difficult to make rapid manuvers. Altitude is a pilots best friend. Altitude and air speed are life savers.


You are correct. TCAS only works at a certain altitude due to radar. 10 miles visible last night. Definitely VFR. ILS might have saved this accident. FAA is gonna eat this one. Talked with a few of my pilot friends today. They all hate DCA. Too many restrictions.
