[quote=SuperSpike] I was assuming the OP was referring to an exact 1320 foot square with exact 90 degree corners. Those don't exist that I have ever found.
They exist on maps printed on flat paper.

Some 40’s are bigger than others. I have one that hunts like a 80. Hills and hollows you could get lost in.

What's on a map and how it's surveyed and what's actually on the ground ( surface area sq feet ) are different, it's 2D V 3D, apples and oranges . A section on the ground in the mountains of Northeast Alabama is "bigger " on the ground than a section of LA flat land. The steeper it is the more surface you have.

It’s very noticeable on tree planting jobs when you buy trees and quote a job for a flat acreage but it’s very hilly. Tree planters always plant several acres more trees than expected because surface acres and flat acres are not the same! Trying to get the local NRCS offices to honor that is challenging because their acreages are estimated on 2D

Actually….i own a surveyed, and perfectly squared, 40 acres. The 1320’ lines are correct that he posted but I’ve never checked the 220 yd centering but I will. I’m sure it’s right too.
Even though there’s some crazy posts going on there, there was a little useful info in that OP. 😂 You should buy a lottery ticket then. I have been Surveying for 37 years and have never seen one. Supposedly we bought oen last February and it seems like it when I walked the perimeter checking out the three westervelt corner pins.

I walked some of my property last weekend that I had never put boots on before some very steep hollers with big elevation changes. It made me wonder how much ground was actually there.

There’s probably an AI program that could calculate how much “flat” acreage would be there. Probably be based off a topo map of the property.
