Got one in the field right now. The doe peed on its back legs and a button head is trying to wear the bearings out in it. At least 5 attempts. The doe is receptive but ole knot head is having trouble getting in. The thing is, a buck is off to my left out of sight tearing up some limbs. That doe is up wind from that area and should have a good sent going that way. My sent could be keeping the other buck from entering the field. The two deer are still at it. Hopefully one will take. I have often thought the younger deer do most of the breeding.

It be's that way sometimes.

That knot head may have a heart attack in this heat.

Yeah. Lots of people think it’s the dominant bucks that do all the breeding. That ain’t necessarily so.

I've seen untold numbers of deer where I hunt in the 40+ years of hunting that property and only seen breeding once. A spike chased a doe all around me one afternoon. She finally stopped and he got mounted and it was wham, bam, thank you ma'am. I was surprised at how fast it was. No humping, just one quick thrust. All that work just for that has to be disappointing for them both.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Nobody can define what a dominant buck even is.

Exactly. Kind of like a dominant gobbler.

The one that catches up with the prettiest doe in the herd.
