It’s such a fine sight to see: twin 44 Carbines . . . 1980 on top and 1981 on bottom. On loan to me from a Ruger collector friend of mine who told me to shoot them and enjoy them. They have been in a safe for a couple decades. Those “peep under” aluminum scope rings are awful, of course, but some of you are old enough to remember those. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/9MXmYdrc/IMG-4667.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/PqQfD3f6/IMG-4664.jpg)

That's a couple of FINE rifles! I picked up one and a Ruger Super Blackhawk about a year ago and love 'em!
Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

Good rifle if you are hunting in the woods and can't shoot more then 100 yds. I also liked the model 99/44 which was only made by Ruger a few years but the action was like a Mini-14
Killed a lot of deer with one of these Deerslayers I had this instead of the Reminting 740 or Winchester 100 it fit on the handle bar gun rack of my 3 wheeler real nice.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

From previous discussions we've seen here, it seems both the 96/44 lever action and the 99/44 semi-auto suffered from Ruger's use of much cheaper, weaker "hardwood" that was birch or beech instead of genuine walnut. A persistent worry with both the Gen 1 44 Carbine (1961-85) and the 96/44 (1996-2006) was stock cracking from the 44 Mag recoil. I don't understand enough about physics to know why bolt action rifles of much stronger calibers don't crack their stocks.
