My son is about 22 months old. When did y’all start spanking your son? Any tips? I know never discipline when mad etc. We use what his daycare uses in threatening to put his nose to the corner and it settles him down etc when I have popped him lightly on the diaper he just turns around and swings thinking it’s a game etc

If he thinks it's a game it's just a game. We don't do formal spankings often, but we do give seats on the spot.

Our rule of thumb was, when they are old enough to knowingly show defiance, they are old enough to get swatted.

For all other stuff we use talking, timeouts, and scolding. But acts of defiance and lies get spankings/swats 100% of the time.

Its a job. Just do it in a way thats appropriate for the age. Wouldnt hurt a thing to spank him with your hand. Be stern. This action requires this punishment. And do it every time. He will learn quick. Dont do it out of anger but out of love and obligation. Youll probably cry harder than him the first time, i know i did. Also, communicate well whats going on and why.

My 9 year old I’ve never laid a hand on him. Take away his laptop. iPad and cell phone for a week. His attitude gets adjusted real quick.

Physically controlling and moving away from the incorrect behavior can work.

Some kids only respond to spanking, some kids respond well to restrictions, and occasionally, some kids can be controlled/disciplined by simply speaking firmly. The last ones are rare.

My great-nephew is stubborn. I can discipline him, but he doesn't comply until I wrap him up in a bear hug and immobilize him. Once he realizes it's Uncle Huck the grizzly and not his petting mama, he is absolutely ready to listen, and I have no more problems until the next time he visits. He generally remembers pretty quick, as I am low tolerance for bad behavior.

That's my only rule about kids. If they are at my house, they follow my rules. You can enforce that if you are there, but if you don't, then I will. I will never be cruel or mean, but children need to know how to behave.

I was always disappointed by the fact that my sister's kids would behave at my house but not at home. They knew right from wrong, but their mom let them get by with almost anything. Once upon a time, my niece was visiting and my sister suggested that she bring her new shorts. She looked at her mother (at age 7) and said "do you really think Huck would let me wear those?

My son and daughter are better people than me. I had 2 great kids so it only escalated to a real whopping a couple of times for each.

My hand was heavier early and lighter as they aged. What I mean by that is I spanked more often early in their life. Before age 10 or so, I used push ups first then a quick swat on the butt. Sometimes the swat came first but push ups usually.

The Bible says to discipline for sure. It also demands that we not break their spirit.

When they got to double digits, I coached tough but was physical less. They hay was in the barn at that point and our relationship needed to grow as they had and me honestly.

I controlled my anger by using push ups like I mentioned. Sometimes they did a lot of push ups in a day. My daughter did the 2nd most push ups in the physical fitness testing they do at school in second grade. Not second most for girls, second most in the school. Haha

My son is in his first year of Med School and my daughter has never missed the Dean's List at Bama. More importantly to me, they love me and my wife. Most importantly, they both love God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit lives in them.

Don't worry Dad, you will get it right enough because you care to get it right.

I'd definitely start now. Human beings are motivated by the pursuit of pleasure or the avoidance of pain. He needs to learn early on that disobedience results in pain. Make them cry now, or one day they'll make you cry when they're older.

So glad my dad wore my butt out many times. I deserved everyone!! Dad was a very Godly man! He read the wordwhere the Lord said - spare the rod - spoil the child. Taking paddling out of school amd folks stopping to spank kids is one of the huge reasons America is where it is right now!! 0 discipline or accountability among other things!! Lord said what he said for a reason and he never been wrong!!

Sometimes it’s a lack of interest just go a little easy at that age unless it’s a real life lesson. Sometimes we can go overboard about things but u will know to do it when needed. I think sometimes at that age they really don’t need anger introduced unless it’s absolutely necessary

I have a 3 year old and a 7 year old. I hate whipping them but I do it .. the 3 year old, whippings don’t bother him a bit, 7 year old starts getting tears before he gets his. I don’t beat them and I usually use the lightest object I can that stings the worse.. but I ALWAYS hug them after and explain to them why they get it…

Have to find out what works on them. Everyone is different. Spanking works on some but I had a nephew that it didn’t. But make him sit still in a corner was the worst ever for him.

I believe spankings are most effective when they are young. Better to be too early than too late.

My kids are grown and married now. We spanked both of them early. I never used my hand. At a young age we used a fly swatter. Then moved on to a belt. Once they get older, it’s more about them understanding their mistake, acknowledging it, and turning from it. And then apologizing for it and moving on. We still gave them consequences, but those consequences we tried to copy real life consequences. Losing a privilege usually. We screwed it up a lot. I had to apologize to my kids a lot. Especially my son. But they both turned out pretty good.
