I am getting back into gardening after about a 15 year hiatus.Had an awesome back yard garden in Florida but am early in the learning curve for Alabama. What are you guys go to for Sweet Corn. Also, when my Grandaddy was a real life truck farmer he grew what we called “ little green peas.” Lol They are still grown a lot around here but I have no clue on variety. I assume some type of white pea.

Peas are probably cream 40 variety or something similar. A real pain to shell, but they are yummy.

To GOD be All the glory!!!

When I was a kid I spent part of the summer here with my grandparents. The evenings activities often involved everyone sitting watching TV and shelling peas and butter beans.

My favorite sweet corn is G90. It’s a bicolor hybrid corn.

Plant your corn in square patches. Corn is pollinated by the wind, so a square patch of the same number of stalks will grow more corn than a long single row of the same number of stalks.

Nothing like some good ol white field corn, best creamed. Best pea, picked, and shelled before filled out, cream or field peas not sure of number. Try cream peas numbsr 8, 12, 40 or other numbers. Best shelled by hand while still green for sweetness.

If I plant a conventional sweet corn, it’s gonna be Crave. I generally plant obsession 2, SV9010, anthem, and patriarch. All of these are super sweet varieties. Remember sweet corn loves to eat and drink. Plenty water and plenty nitrogen and you’ll grow great corn. Mississippi cream and Texas 40 is my go to cream peas. The Mississippi cream is a small white pea that make the best creamy “gravy” there is. Very similar to what the old people here would call the “ pot du poule” or lady cream pea. Pot du poule means chicken foot in French the pods grew in 3 and looked like a chicken foot. Very small pods so you had to plant a lot to get a good supply of peas. The Mississippi cream has a long pod with lots of peas in them.
