I have lots of trapping experience but I have never targeted otters. I bought a 20 acre lake last year and I think otters have impacted my fish population. I did catch one by accident the other day in a 330 beaver set. How do you guys target otter sets? I don't really have any slides around the lake that I have seen and I have not seen any fish scale piles around the bank. Lots of open water to deal with. The one I did catch was coming up over and around my dam. There are a couple of runs in the upper end going thru vegetation that I might could set conibears in but I would love to stay out of that section because of the pain to get back in there. Thanks in advance.

I'd love to hear some pointers of otter trapping as well! (those critters have some awesome pelts)

Only one I’ve ever caught was in a k9 extreme leg hold set just under the water on a little dugout in a run coming over the dam. Back leg catch and that sucker stunk and was highly pissed.

Get a 24” rebar stake and either drill a small hole about two inches below the top or weld a small cross bar two inches below the top. Get in about 6-8” of water and drive it in to where 6-8” is above the surface. Stick a bream or other fish on top and wire it off. Set two foothold traps around the stake either on a drowning rod or a long chain opposite sides of each other but try to make it so once caught it doesn’t knock over the stake or interfere with the other trap and you can possibly catch 2. It works pretty good but you will catch a lot of coons as well
