Is absolutely worthless for the most part. I remember back in 2003, I was working a shutdown and worked a 36 hour shift straight because we had a job to get done. We came came out of the plant, I climbed in my truck and immediately drove 500 miles home. Was it the safest thing to do? No. Would I ask anyone to do it today? No, but today I had two guys “have” to go home, during an outage, after only working 6 hours and 45 minutes, instead of the scheduled 12 hours, because they were tired from working so “hard”. Unfortunately we can’t get rid of them for at least a week because we need them. Just have to move them to another site on 8 hour shifts. The workforce has gone to sh!t

Been there and know exactly what you mean. Me and the “old heads” talk about those days all the time. These people coming into the business have no clue what hard work and what work ethic is. It’s sad to know these will be the future leaders of our society.

All I knew growing up was oil fields and refineries. Working 100hr+ weeks weren’t out of the norm and a lot of the time were the expectation.. Hell there were times we had to allocate hours into the next week due to labor laws.

I’m in operations now but I still swear those were the best days of my life..

If a young man will show up on time, not call in once a week and just show a little bit of initiative, he will go places. You can't even get the young folks to show up regularly.

With today’s competition it’s easier than ever to excel in the workforce. One doesn’t have to even give it their all anymore to succeed and strive in the workforce.

That's the same workforce some of these folk think are gonna build houses and other manual labor jobs. They don't understand how truly worthless the American worker is. It's got nothing to do with pay. It's work ethic and most ain't got it.

My wife started with 65 employees in July. She is down to 55 now due tardies and sick calls. These people make 75k per year and want come to work.

The lack of work ethic will also be why more and more jobs get replaced by machines.

EXACTLY!!! It’s like folks forget one when talking about the other. There’s a lot of things gonna come to a sudden stop if all illegals are sent home. It ain’t about pay. It’s about others not being willing to work.

And, FWIW, we unloaded our 13th robot today. Getting folks to work on them is a whole different problem.

We started a helper a week ago Monday at $23 per hour. Three years ago that job started at $16. Started on Monday, quit on Wednesday.

There’s still some good ones out there. Just have to sift through a lot more BS to find them

It all started with participation trophies and bicycle helmets.

I have been in the machining trade for 32 years. Young people don't want to do that type of work anymore. The wage gap is closing between older machinist that can do the work vs. the new ones that just want to talk about how good they are. Employers aren't what they once were either.
