Who taught all these young people their work ethic Who started all the participation trophies The same generation that’s doing all the bitching now. Boomers are the root cause of a lot of the problems in this country today. Totally agree. But some love to point fingers. And the political climate is a direct result of their voting too.

I have to spend way to much time working "in" my business, when I should be spending that time working "on" my business, due to the problem of finding and retaining quality workers. I have a core group of great guys but, I have 2 or 3 positions that are a revolving door of slackers.
Some of my core group are going to start aging out and it's concerning

It's not just the "younger" people but most of them definitely aren't worth a chit in most cases. It's people in general. The really good, quality workers are being taken care of by the company they work for and are hard to find and get. You have to just weed through the rest to hopefully find 1 or 2 that you might be worth a chit.

It's absolutely ridiculous. I've got one that is 10-15 minutes late every day, not occasionally, every friggin day. But, he's there every day. I think he's missed 2 days of work in 3 yrs. He's slow and he had a couple of screw ups that cost me about $10k out of pocket last year but he's there every day.
I have another that apparently has IBS and has to chit about a dozen times a day. All I can do to reduce the unproductive time is restrict cell phones in the chitter. It doesn't cut down on how many times he goes but it greatly reduced the time of each visit.

Here's some great factual information about today's hardworking "American" workforce that I posted in another thread:
"According to data from the Department of Health and Human Services, roughly 27% of working-age 24-64 adults in the United States participate in a social safety net program, meaning they receive some form of welfare assistance; this translates to around one in four working-age Americans. At a time when the United States is struggling with labor shortages, nearly 20% of prime-age adults—approximately 24 million Americans aged 25-54 — are not working. The vast majority of these people, roughly 21 million, are not even looking for work and are therefore “out of the labor force.” Only three million prime-age adults are seeking work and so are “unemployed”.
That's right, a full 20% of the prime working age US citizens, ages 25-54, are not working at all and 90% of those are not even looking for a job.
There are still quite a few hard workers and skilled craftsmen in the workforce but unfortunately, the majority of these exceptional workers are quickly aging out of the workforce. Almost all are locked down by their current employers and most of those employers, know what they have and will do whatever it takes to keep them. More benefits, more pay, more tolerance for bad actions, whatever it takes. Why, because replacing those guys with what is currently available, is virtually impossible.

I see/read those numbers, but it's hard for me to wrap my head around it being that many. Mind boggling that approx 1 outta 4 folks just don't work & live off Gov tit. How can they afford to live? Do all of 'em live w' relatives or mommy & daddy & mooch off them? Somebody make it make sense. IMO anyone that allows a grown working age person to mooch off them while they do nothing but draw a fed gov check is also part of the problem.

Well Eddie's been out of work for 7 yrs, Clark.
In 7 yrs, he couldn't find a job?

Healthcare workforce is bad too. Can't get half of our nurses to come in on a regular basis. Look for any reason to call in. We run 12 hr shifts and at least one nurse calls in daily. Our youngest son is an RN (currently holds an ADN) and is working toward his BSN while working as a surgical nurse at a local hospital. He told me the other night that their CEO had informed them that they were discontinuing their incentive program in August of this year. We are not sure if he will be able to finish in August or if he will have to wait until December depending on what classes will be offered through the summer. But, he has already been looking into travel nurse jobs because of this decision. He should have gotten a $3.00/hour raise upon completion of the BSN if they were not eliminating the program. I don't understand how this works but I have seen it happen before here. Hospitals will choose to pay lower wages and run the local nurses off to take travel jobs or have a longer commute for better pay and end up having to hire travel nurses who they have to pay more for - make it make sense!

Considering so many meth heads exist. They moooch too, depending on who knows how to work the paperwork and get whatever welfare they can. It was funny a few years back a friend of mine, Hancock was helping a family with their power bills and food. Come to find out hay families drawing several thousand in welfare and blowing at the casinos. They’d stay until they blew thru it and then go to the church for help. Found out it was several churches. My friend church helped several meth heads get new teeth etc…. I ithink beer if that church still helps those meth heads, they haven’t changed their ways.

It all started with participation trophies and bicycle helmets. Don’t forget helicopter parents and grandparents. Can’t let the kids breath since they smother the kids with protection from all.
