It’s was getting bad before Covid
Covid will be known as the great multiplier for excusing workforce problems
Gonna be hard to come back unless the cut the free flow of money and assistance

Is absolutely worthless for the most part. I remember back in 2003, I was working a shutdown and worked a 36 hour shift straight because we had a job to get done. We came came out of the plant, I climbed in my truck and immediately drove 500 miles home. Was it the safest thing to do? No. Would I ask anyone to do it today? No, but today I had two guys “have” to go home, during an outage, after only working 6 hours and 45 minutes, instead of the scheduled 12 hours, because they were tired from working so “hard”. Unfortunately we can’t get rid of them for at least a week because we need them. Just have to move them to another site on 8 hour shifts. The workforce has gone to sh!t I'd make them work 1130PM to 0730am and make them quit. Then task them with some clean-ups at 0700 that take them an additional 30 mins lol. My son works 18-24 hrs at times for his company, especially if we get land slides or something pressing. He's 28

There's some out there that will work and they possess a superpower compared to their peers. They can work anywhere and about name their price. I tell my son and daughter this all the time, if they will do their job, be on time, and not complain, they will never have a lack for a job and will always make decent money. Good advice. I’ve preached the same to mine. Both are electrician apprentices with aspirations of having their own businesses someday. I know they’re tired of hearing it, but I’ve told them to answer their phones, return messages, and be there when you say you’re gonna be there. The ones that do this don’t have to hunt for work. If they won’t do it, someone else will, and that’s who will succeed.

Healthcare workforce is bad too. Can't get half of our nurses to come in on a regular basis. Look for any reason to call in. We run 12 hr shifts and at least one nurse calls in daily. Our youngest son is an RN (currently holds an ADN) and is working toward his BSN while working as a surgical nurse at a local hospital. He told me the other night that their CEO had informed them that they were discontinuing their incentive program in August of this year. We are not sure if he will be able to finish in August or if he will have to wait until December depending on what classes will be offered through the summer. But, he has already been looking into travel nurse jobs because of this decision. He should have gotten a $3.00/hour raise upon completion of the BSN if they were not eliminating the program. I don't understand how this works but I have seen it happen before here. Hospitals will choose to pay lower wages and run the local nurses off to take travel jobs or have a longer commute for better pay and end up having to hire travel nurses who they have to pay more for - make it make sense! Congrats to your son for working and going to further his education. When covid hit, we lost alot of good nurses to travel assignments cause our hospital refused to match the money. You are correct it doesn't make sense to hire travel nurses because they are paid more money.
