I've probably used FB Marketplace for the last time!! I immediately had several obvious scam replies and since I placed that ad, I get about 10 spam calls a day!! Aldeer classified has been a much better option for me. You posted your phone number in a public Facebook ad? That one's kinda on you, pal... Nope, I think it was required in order place the add. I really don't remember. It wasn't in the add though, I'm very protective of my cell number. You must have it listed in your public profile.

I found a 72 k5 in Troy that I wanted to look at, dude responded like that, told him I would be in Troy on such and such day, he responded ok , I requested a meeting place and never heard another word.

I have sold literally HUNDREDS of things on Facebook Marketplace and I've NEVER had to enter my phone number. Hey Gomer, serious question. How does somebody sell hundreds of things on Facebook Marketplace? Do you have some kind of business where you buy and sell stuff? How do you acquire the stuff to sell? Where do to you keep it? Do you just periodically clean out your garage or attic?

Well, for one that’s over the course of several years. Periodically cleaning out junk, around the house/garage. Selling random odds & ends the Mrs wants to get rid of. Have also sold stuff for older family members from time to time.

FB Marketplace isn't too bad if you have the right expectations and do a couple of things... 1. Just add a note at the end of every listing stating "Automated 'is this available' type messages will be ignored and deleted", and then follow through with it. The problem is that on every listing, FB has a pre-populated "is this available" message with a "send" button ready to go. The "send" button is conveniently on the right side of the page, and since most people are right-handed, it's easy to accidentally hit that with your thumb while scrolling. I'd guess a majority of the people that you get that message from don't even realize you sent it. But I put that disclaimer there so that anyone that is intentionally messaging me knows to send an actual message if they expect a response. 2. "Local only - no shipping". If I get a message from someone that isn't in my area, I completely ignore and delete it unless they specifically say they'll be in my area or something to that effect. Do I potentially miss out on a sale here or there? Possibly, but I'll just move on to the next person. 3. Choose a meet-up spot that is convenient to YOU (as a seller). If the buyer is serious, they'll meet you...if not, you didn't go way out of your way or waste a lot of time. As a buyer, I haven't ever really had any issue showing up to buy something and the [/i]seller[/i] standing me up. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/uXP6mqI.jpg) Yes! All of those things! I, too, have sold those things without much trouble once I figured out how to weed out the scammers. That does not mean that I always sell what I list, but all the transactions I have made have been pretty trouble free. I, also, had to figure out how to tell if something I was interested in was a scam as well. If the price seems too good to be true, it nearly always is along with a personal FB page that has nothing showing on it.
