Carried the ole gal thru some rough country in Bankhead today. It is very "friendly" as the Col would say. Light weight, fast, accurate and powerful is a tough combo to top. Its a heck of a rifle! I’ve been using the same gun the past two years but in 350 legend. Great woods gun!

He has a Leupold 2-7x33 VX-R Firedot on one of them and it is his main deer rifle. I've been around 4 of them and they are all very accurate. Mine shoots many sub MOA groups with my handloaded Hornady Interlocks.

It’s way overkill, but a nightforce SHV 4-14x56 (was just sitting in the safe) I get right about 1” if not a hair under with most rounds. It’s what I used when I got that nice 11pt earlier this year. I’ve been debating also getting a 308 one since I sold the land I had been using the 350 legend on and will have a bit more range in the woods on the public land I’m hunting in TN. I really like the action on them.

Nice. I think you should certainly have a 308 too!

I like them, although not owned one. I would love one in 358 Winchester! Did Ruger ever make a GSR in 358 Win?

Not my cup of tea but I can respect any firearm that puts a smile on a fellow shooter’s ugly mug. Yep Scout scopes are slower for me and like looking through a straw. I prefer QRW rings for the regular scope and even just regular irons as a backup. One could also have a red dot or spare scope in the pocket in the event of scope failure. A lever action Marlin with weaver #466 steel mounts, Leupold Illuminated 20mm scope in QRW rings with a red dot already sighted as backup, and the ability to top off from a loading gate fits my requirements better. This rifle comes close to his criteria https://www.marlinfirearms.com/s/model_70905/His weight constraints on the “scout” rifle were about impossible to adhere to. In the case of Cooper’s general concept, some form of AR like Ruger SFAR is best suited. I think a AR mag fed 5.56/223 is well suited too if enemy combatants are a consideration for your “scout” concepts (delusion) Hell, one of the biggest bears ever killed was a 22LR. In this case a Ruger Ranch might be all you would need. https://www.ammoland.com/2017/06/be...-the-1953-world-record-grizzly-and-more/I think Col Cooper was suffering for pharmaceutical delusions.

The good thing about Cooper’s delusion is there is more than one way to skin a cat and I admire them all. 😂🤣😂🤣😂

Believe Col.Cooper wanted a general purpose rifle to handle game up to 400 lbs and a 10 round magazine to fight with if you needed to and a reasonable length and weight. Kinda hard to find 10 round magazine tube lever guns that'll handle .308
Skinny is my EX.Alcohol was involved.
