WE get a few hogs on our properties in Bankhead and wanted to hunt them some early this summer. Whats the protocol on these green lights and do they work? Im told just install and dump your corn out under it and it doesn't bother them to come in at night to feed. If anyone has used these or has a recommendation Im all ears.

I’ve never used the hog light that is motion activated but I do have a green light that mounts to my AR with a push button switch that also mounts to the hand guard. I’ve messed around with it and it will light up things a long ways away. I have a single boar here at the house that only shows up at night. I’m gonna set up and try to kill him using the green light.

I should note that In 6 years of hunting these properties I have never seen a hog in daylight. They are wise and nocturnal. MBrock made a hell of a dent in the population when he was the Biologist up there. They had overestimated the population but they trapped and got after them pretty aggressively. What was left was some smart nocturnal hogs. We need to trap, but no one has time, so a few night time hunts could help us. There were some dog hunters who came in last summer and killed several. One boar looked to be over the 300lb mark. I had pics of him and it was frightening at the size. One member tried them a few times late last summer in a ground blind and said he could hear them but they wouldnt come out on the plot. If these lights work I wanted to dump corn under it in some fresh cutover and back off a couple hundred yards with a few guns and cut loose.

I went on a hog hunt last weekend. The feeders were all under a green light that came on at dark. We also bought green *stick on* light filters for our flashlights. The hogs never paid any attention to the lights.

You gonna pull them pistols, or whistle Dixie?

I've had good luck with the Amazon lights. Most are the same light as the 'name brand' but don't have the name stenciled/printed on them. I usually scan with a red or green light and shoot with my IR scope. Back in the day a red light did pretty good but there would be an animal or two that was skiddish of it. It wasn't a deal breaker though.

Yes they work. I have had many bowhunters kill hogs with me using the green lights setup on feeders.

I have a Wicked brand light that I use. Doesn't seem to spook them, but I start low power and dial it up when I hear them.

Hogs are smart. I have lights on some of my feeders, both green motion lights and one feeder with a medium wattage white light that gets a bit brighter with motion. Hogs get used to those lights coming on real fast for the treat of corn. I’ve shot a good number right out from under the feeders using only the motion lights. It’s better if you can set them up with the lights angled back toward the feeder and away from where you’ll be sitting (downwind and generally to the south) so the photocells get charged and the hogs are lit on the sides rather than just the head and back.
I have both red and green kill lights mounted on rifles. My hogs get spooky real quick if they’ve been hit with that light. But it’s enough to get the first few before they get wise. Not a few at one time but one this week and maybe another next week. If there are multiples around when you pop one it’s much more likely they’ll bolt next time they see the flashlight.
