This is bizarre... One person has died and another was injured after two attacks days apart by hogs at a small farm in Piedmont. On Monday, Piedmont police and the Piedmont Rescue Squad responded to the farm on Bramlett Road on a report about a possible death. They found Steven Kyle Satterfield, 51, under his vehicle at his home. Police believe his multiple injuries were caused by his hogs and that he tried to get away from them by crawling under his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Results from a forensic examination are pending to determine his cause of death. Police are emphasizing that rumors that he was eaten are not true. They also saw a large hog loose on the property and a section of fence was down, according to police. The two hogs believed to have cause his injuries were taken to a veterinarian to be secured. Two other hogs on the property could not be removed because of environmental issues. But they were secured in a trailer while the fence could be repaired. The family and the Department of Agriculture were notified. However, state laws do not allow law enforcement to make decisions about livestock, so it was up to the owners to decide what to do with the hogs. The family took the hogs from the veterinarian's office but did not take them back to the property in Piedmont. Then on Thursday, the two remaining hogs at the farm injured a person who was feeding them. That person was taken for treatment by medical personnel. The extent of those injuries was not released. The family then euthanized those hogs on the property because of the aggressive behavior.

My grandfather raised hogs when I was a kid. He kept then in line with a stick. I never remember him having any issues.

Makes you wonder how much they were fed, how they were treated etc… I had up in the upper 20’s at one point and never had an issue. One strand of hot wire along the bottom of the fence and fed em twice daily… I could pet mine heard this story several days ago and wondered if the man had underlying health issues and went down then hogs got to him… idk regardless I’d probably just got rid of em the right way… Something similar happened down the road from me about 7-8 years ago. Guy had a heart attack and his own dogs chewed on him after he was dead.

Pigs can be dangerous animals. And they are VERY smart.
Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

My uncle and aunt owned a commercial pig farm (typically had around 1,000 or so at any given time). With the exception of the birthing house you rarely touched them (clip teeth, tails, and inooculate them) and at a certain size you never got in the pens with them, unless someone else was there. They used a gate system and prods to move them down the line to finally the market pens to be shipped to the slaughterhouse. Their feet never touched the dirt - born on concrete and raised on either raised grates or concrete.
