you don't need a high dollar graphite rod, or much of a reel for creek fishing. Simple reel for line holding, and a 8 foot fiberglass rod will do fine for creek fishing. Prolly a six or seven weight for bream and bass flies.
I have half dozen high dollar Sage Saltwater rods. When ya need big flies, high wind, long distance they come in handy. Most of the time-out so much. My go to redfish rod is a Fiberglasss St Croix 8/9 weight. Perfect for short range red fishing.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

as far as reels go, like Fred said it's basically just there to hold line. I bought a Piscifun reel a year or two ago that has exceeded my expectations. I think it was $40-50 and has a nice smooth drag.

I like fly fishing for bream. Ever now and then you get a decent bass on. It’s fun

Rod lengths are important 9 vs 10’ (try them). I roll my baits (flys and/or corks) instead of all the casting you see on tv. Try casting in a small creek and see what happens. I BELIEVE mine are 9’, I haven’t fished with them in years. I need to. I’ve always liked the old automatic reels. Paddle with one hand and fish with the other. South bend, Martin. I think flueger makes one still.
