Looking to get a rod and reel combo to start fly fishing (creeks). Don’t want to break the bank, but don’t want no garbage either.
Hoping some of the fly guys on her could chime in and give a few recommendations.
Thanks

Hard to beat Redington for the money.

Check Bass Pro. Sometimes they have combos for a reasonable price.

you don't need a high dollar graphite rod, or much of a reel for creek fishing. Simple reel for line holding, and a 8 foot fiberglass rod will do fine for creek fishing. Prolly a six or seven weight for bream and bass flies.

I have half dozen high dollar Sage Saltwater rods. When ya need big flies, high wind, long distance they come in handy. Most of the time-out so much. My go to redfish rod is a Fiberglasss St Croix 8/9 weight. Perfect for short range red fishing.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

as far as reels go, like Fred said it's basically just there to hold line. I bought a Piscifun reel a year or two ago that has exceeded my expectations. I think it was $40-50 and has a nice smooth drag.

I like fly fishing for bream. Ever now and then you get a decent bass on. It’s fun

I bought a 5wt from Bass Pro years ago and it’s been great.

I prefer TFO brand fly rods. You can get a bug launcher combo for about $200. It's a quality setup that will serve you well for years.

Rod lengths are important 9 vs 10’ (try them). I roll my baits (flys and/or corks) instead of all the casting you see on tv. Try casting in a small creek and see what happens. I BELIEVE mine are 9’, I haven’t fished with them in years. I need to.
I’ve always liked the old automatic reels. Paddle with one hand and fish with the other.
South bend, Martin. I think flueger makes one still.

If I hung a big fish, “I” am the drag, I let line out by hand.
You got me looking at a new reel now.
