I’ve burned in these conditions and nothing good as it’s not if but now many jumps you gonna have. It doesn’t take much to jump either. I ran fuel and checked lines and it’s bad when trying to black in and getting jumps early. One job we started at 7:30 and still had a few. I’m sure the tree plant crew loved that site prep.

Huh. I had a fire in my fire pit last night. Might have another one tonight. I won't burn paper. But wood will be just fine.

No burning, just boiling crawfish today.

There’s several substantial wildfires in Pickens and Greene counties blowing smoke up on 82. There’s also a large one in east Fayette county.

Neighbor cauht our field on fire this morning. Got into a huge pile of tires he had piled up. Pretty good show and excitement this morning..

They’ve shut it down for everyone again tomorrow. They had over 85 wildfires in the state today! 🙃
Lots of those are from licensed burners is what the email said I just got from the AFC.

Does that mean 85 uncontrolled burns?

Not necessarily. A wildfire can be an accidental fire, caused by unknown sources, intentionally set without a permit or an escaped permitted fire that got outside its defined boundaries. Word is over the last several days over 50% of wildfires they’ve responded to were originally permitted, but escaped due to conditions.

That’s correct. Ones where the ‘oh crap’ call was made to them is what I’m guessing. I only count 20 on the map right now though, so looks like they’ve got most of them under control.

They’re now reporting 95 wildfires today according to Spann. That’s insane.

Easy to see how it could happen. I checked several of mine that I burned early in the week. Embers can be thrown hundreds of yards in these winds and with below 20% humidities it’ll ignite about anything

I think it’s due to ignorance. People light crap all the time. In the city and out in the country and just don’t know how volatile it is right now. You could burn a swamp with a magnifying glass right now.

Yeah I just saw Spann’s forward on the Winston co fire that almost burned down a few houses today. Some IDOT lit a pile of leaves. My word. That can wait! People do not understand fire behavior and how all of it ties together to make an extremely volatile situation. Had we known earlier in the week that we’d be in the current conditions I likely would’ve held off on my last day of burning. Actual conditions are worse than the forecast conditions, and have been all week.

Just got in from a wildfire on the national forest. 2 ft flames backing through swamp bottoms and 6-8 going with the wind at MIDNIGHT!
