They’re now reporting 95 wildfires today according to Spann. That’s insane.
Easy to see how it could happen. I checked several of mine that I burned early in the week. Embers can be thrown hundreds of yards in these winds and with below 20% humidities it’ll ignite about anything I think it’s due to ignorance. People light crap all the time. In the city and out in the country and just don’t know how volatile it is right now. You could burn a swamp with a magnifying glass right now. Yeah I just saw Spann’s forward on the Winston co fire that almost burned down a few houses today. Some IDOT lit a pile of leaves. My word. That can wait! People do not understand fire behavior and how all of it ties together to make an extremely volatile situation. Had we known earlier in the week that we’d be in the current conditions I likely would’ve held off on my last day of burning. Actual conditions are worse than the forecast conditions, and have been all week. I recall several burns where forecast was completely missed and we had major jumps. One burn humidity fell from forecast 30% humidity to upper teens. Wind speed was also missed by a few mph. This weather reminds of some site prep in Mississippi where we had to cut it off a few days early cause of the volatility. It was flat ground too. I’d hate to have seen it with any real slope under those conditions. Had a brush pile in the middle of the unit putting up embers that were falling outside of the unit. Yopon and cogon grass in the mix. I hated that burn.

We had morons in our area cleaning up and burning yesterday. I could hear one guy’s wife yelling at him to put the fire out.

We need more government regulations on this No. We need ppl to adhere to requests from the existing authority. More regulation only makes it more difficult for ppl already doing it right. When they requested ppl to not burn, we stopped. I know several who did not just because they didn’t have to. Ppl just need to use their head.

Conditions would look ideal and they’d deny it.

I saw fires going today in Baldwin county south of 112. The map has been showing a contained wildfire just south of i10 for a couple days now but I haven’t seen any sign of fire there.
I burned my place last Wednesday just before the advisory came out - I have been back twice to confirm all fire is extinguished and im satisfied. Ready for turkey season..
To add: I’d like to get my Prescribed Burn Manager Cert just to have it and to further my education but I haven’t seen any classes offered lately and even msg’d the AFC fb page and got a response that they would get back to me on a class date but that was some time back.

Had a guy yesterday burning at the base of a steep hillside with a strong NW wind. To no one’s surprise it got out of hand ran up the mountainside and we ended spending 8 hours out there. People are not smart No they’re not.

How is the guy legally burning if they aren’t issuing burn permits? It’s a criminal offense right? Like if you don’t take proper precautions it can be up to a Felony right?

How is the guy legally burning if they aren’t issuing burn permits? It’s a criminal offense right? Like if you don’t take proper precautions it can be up to a Felony right? He’s not legally burning. It’s a misdemeanor if on your own property. AL law provides landowners the right to burn. We are a right to burn state. However, that does not mean you aren’t liable for your actions. To not be found criminally negligent, you must meet 3 criteria. They are have a burn plan, be certified, and obtain a permit from AFC. Typically, if you act within the parameters of a good burn plan and something happens outside your control, then your liability is minimal. If you act outside the scope of a good burn plan, you’re an idiot, and will be held fully liable. For additional protection, most certified burn managers carry additional insurance if they burn commercially.

My stuff burned good and so did my neighbors, their neighbors and their neighbors neighbors. Hope they appreciate all the work I did for them. It’s all about perspective. You should send them a bill
