That's not investing. That's gambling. With those numbers you could have invested in some safe high yield corporate bonds and held pace with the S&P 500.
ETA: I'm guilty also, but I do it with small amounts I don't mind losing. ("Real money" is all bonds and index funds.) Current example is a I bought a ride on Spirit Airlines. .gov barred their attempts to save themselves with merger. So they filed bankruptcy, leaving stockholders with a value of zero.

have Patience, it will all work out. It will. I know. I'm just being funny. I have plenty of money in the market long term in our 401k's and I won't need to touch it until Uncle Sam makes me start taking RMD's, plus We have a bunch of money in high interest CD's that we really don't need to touch either unless we have an emergency, plus we have a bunch of cash just in a high interest savings in case we come across an investment opportunity like some land or a second home. I just wanted to take a few dollars and play around with it. I just wish I had waited a few weeks before I bought. Trying to time the stock market is for fools or people who think they are experts.

Trust me, I'm not worried. I have about many more times that amount in stable investments for long term growth.

If you can't pull the trigger on retirement under a bad President , bad economy , you're not positioned well enough to do it at all. Betting on the economy to fail is one thing , hoping it fails is wrong IMO.

So for grins and giggles a few weeks ago I decided to do a little investing on the side with some play money. I invested about $20k in: AMD Norwegian SPDR S&P 500 Vanguard S&P 500 If you want any advice on how to turn $20k into $17k really quickly shoot me a PM. The Good Lord is telling me I should have just blown that money on a 250 enduro bike like I wanted to. Yeah but think of all the medical bill $ you saved by NOT getting that dirt bike.

I’m get the gist of staying the course but I definitely dislike the buy/drop/comeback phase. You lose time and should count for something
You wouldn't be looking at aldeer for those types of tips. You need a better source than even Chatgpt will give you. You have to know enough about all the thresholds, how to set them up properly using advanced math skills, annnnnndddddddd be in the elite of getting the information before everyone else. Other than that, the stock market is ebs, flows, gains, and drops.

I wish I had a chunk to invest right now because I'm positive Trump will get it going in the other direction and some people will make tons of money.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I've missed out on 2 great opportunities because I have a flip that hasn't sold as expected. Misjudged the market or overvalued the end result. Hopefully it'll sell soon. Keep dropping price a little each 30 days and pull then relist it. Not thrilled. Need to recapture my investment to reinvest so I'm stalled.

I am not a fan of holding individual stocks, got burned bad back in 1987 and now only hold ETF's, CD's, some precious metals and cash. Moved some stuff around a few weeks ago because when I took a deep dive into the holdings in the mutual funds that I had, many had the same top 7 and I felt it was too overloaded and risky. It is really hard to get some of the holding information for many of the Mutual funds, so it is one more reason why I switched to ETF's where the holding information is more transparent. I was really too over concentrated in the Mag 7 to suit my personal risk tolerance. Now days, Tech is the big component. See chart in the link. Ben Carlson also has some reasonable advice that is easy to understand. top 10 Companies in the S&P 500 over timeThe dude that I use for my Retirement funds thought I was a bit spreadsheet crazy, (I am!) saw that I was indeed overleveraged and we made changes to spread out the risk. Is is perfect, heck no, probably a bit less return, however I fell like I am better prepared for the downside than I was before. We simplified the number of ETF's to get a reasonable mix and while still generally 60/40 equities to bonds, the mix is much less concentrated in the Mag 7. I then made up two portfolios in google finance, one with the holding before and another with the holdings after and the difference is now about $10K, which only means that I lost less than I would have had I not changed up the mix that I had invested in different funds. I am a huge believer in the ETF's as they have much lower cost and performance is as good or better than mutual funds. To each their own... Warren Buffet, holding all that cash should be a lesson for all investors to heed. I do not believe it is over yet and more ups and downs to come before it settles and starts again. Be ready to take advantage if you can.... Stay aware and ready...
