Anyone load any 300 blackout subs and use them for hunting pigs, coyotes? I will be shooting a suppressed bolt action rifle so no action to cycle. Looking for something that will humanely kill out to 100yds with an occasional trip to 150. I currently load a 165gr SP hornady over AA1680 and its very quite and seems like it would do well. Unfortunately sighted for 50, it drops 7" at 100 and 2 feet at 150. I may try some 150s but Iam not expecting much better. What about some of the 110s or 125s? Any thoughts? I can go supersonic, and stay relatively quiet still but would prefer to stay sub if possible.

Any recipes you can share?

Thanks,
Jason

You're trajectory will stay almost the same no matter what bullet as long as you are shooting subsonic. You are limited to about 1050fps, and that speed will play the biggest factor in determining trajectory. I do have a load for the 208 amax that I can get for you when I get home.

I understand, thanks for the reality check. Was kind of hoping I was wrong but yep. I guess its a case of just using a fairly heavy bullet to keep energy now and know my limits. Shoots those 165s pretty darn accurately tho. I can hold a 2" group at 100 with them, I feel pretty good about that.

That's why I tried 450 bushmaster this year. 395 to 425gr at 1050fps hits with more authority for sure, but not nearly as quiet as the blackout. 190 sub-x has worked well in my blackout. Broadside heart lungs only out to 150. 208 amax was good for head/neck shots, poor performance in chest cavity. Used to load the 165 sp for my 308, very accurate and quiet but very poor performance on deer except head shots. Was using Trailboss for the 308.

Ahhh the mythical Trailboss. Wish they would get it back on the market.

How loud is the bullet impact on game? Some of the bullets designed for this look like you'd hear a big whop.

I have several bottles of Trailboss. I have been using AA1680 for my subs so far. I hear unique is good for this as well. I have kegs of it so I may try it one day.

I have only shot targets so far, but my 165's are louder hitting the target than the noise of the round through the suppressor. I am shooting 3/4" rubber belts with targets stapled to them. The rounds still penetrate the rubber and go into the berm behind it from 100 yards. Not sure how much they expand as I havent dug any out yet.

I’ve done a little with Unique and Red Dot trying to find a good light bullet load. I’ve tried the 90 gr XTP and have done 100 grain soft points to try.

i would cast some lead stuff if I wasnt running a suppressor. I dont know, but I understand they dont appreciate lead.

You can buy or make powder coated lead bullets for subs.

Yes sir, I have some of those already. Unfortunately they are 170gr FP bullets for a 3030. They do work great. Wonder how that coating changes the expansion for a lead bullet? I know its a LOT cheaper than a jacketed bullet but i dont know how well it works with no exposed lead, I doubt it matters at full speed but I wonder about that for subs.

Shot some Nosler 150 gr BT RN test loads with Unique yesterday. Need to do some further testing but I think they'll be OK. Once I get it dialed in I'll probably line some water jugs up and see if I can catch one.

Nice, subsonic I guess? Let me know how they expand. I have some of the nosler BT lead nose I can load up.
