It gradually goes to 3%, and then “goes to 0% by 2037 if the state meets growth criteria and there is money left that isn’t spent in the state budget”. I’m paraphrasing of course. My takeaway is that it’s going to 3% and won’t go any lower. I’ll take it, though. Better than 5%

So a $200,000 house would be $3k/year there. But zero income tax. And significant wildlife property tax exemptions if you live on ‘managed’ property. I’d still take the no income tax on every dime earned in a lifetime.

Good luck finding a $200,000 house in Texas in a neighborhood you would feel safe in. Before we moved here, my wife had a total of 6 neck surgeries. This led her having to medically retire at age 50. We lost 40% of our income. In Alabama, my tax liability would decrease. In Texas, my property taxes continued to increase.
