I’ll trade ….no state income tax for higher property tax. Income tax…applies to every dime you ever make. 5% here of everything. Try living in Texas and pay their wealth tax on property. I lived on both sides of the fence. I'll take the Alabama state income tax any day over Texas property taxes. This ain’t no lie here. When I lived in Texas my property tax was as much or more than my monthly mortgage. I looked at a house in Wallaceville in 1986 and was like "I'm buying it" and then I saw the property taxes and said "fug no" lol

So a $200,000 house would be $3k/year there. But zero income tax. And significant wildlife property tax exemptions if you live on ‘managed’ property. I’d still take the no income tax on every dime earned in a lifetime.

They’ll make it up somewhere else, rest assured. Waiting to see just where, with bated breath. ^^This^^. I’ve lived in a state where they had no income taxes. They rape you in other areas. I remember dad bought a Cadillac back in 1990. When he went to get the tag for it, it was over $4k.

Good luck finding a $200,000 house in Texas in a neighborhood you would feel safe in. Before we moved here, my wife had a total of 6 neck surgeries. This led her having to medically retire at age 50. We lost 40% of our income. In Alabama, my tax liability would decrease. In Texas, my property taxes continued to increase.

It will be made up, you know they aren’t letting all that money go.
