News is saying Rolls Royce is shifting production to the US. Not sure if that means the cars or the big engines or all of it. The cars are fancy, but the big industrial engines are some of the best in the world. Caterpillar uses them for mining machines.

Its looks like its the Jet Engines component of Rolls Royce. BMW owns the car business.

I spent 40 years around the jet engines. Their engines were great on the big fan jets. But imo the JT8D is still the best aircraft motor.

I bet they set up a new shop somewhere near enough to there, maybe on the Tombigbee or Alabama. Hyundai just announced a new steel production facility for Louisiana. Globalism aint slowing down for anybody.

Pretty sure the Greene county industrial development authority has riverfront property available.

I used to machine jet engine part in Fort Walton for RR. Early 80s

Was hard to believe I was carrying around. $85,000 part and could screw one up in a split second.

Some of the parts had 3 oz of gold in the welds that had little air fins per part. We put the part in a big block of lead like stuff when we finished machining the part we'd melt the rest of the lead off

One fan blade is now 30k. Most commercial jet engines cost in the range of 15 to 25 million

JT8D on B727 if I remember correctly? The B757 I have worked on mostly have the Rolls Royce RB211’s on them. Never had much issues at all with the RB 211’s.

You are correct. Delta ran them on the 727. 737. Dc 9. CFM motors on the DC 8. GE motors on the 767 and 757. Rolls Royce on the L1011. My favorite aircraft. During cold weather the L1011 during start up would blow smoke like a steam locomotive. It would freak out passengers.

Before they installed an engine oil diverter valve, the RR AE1107C would do the same then when we cranked up the MV-22B if it had been sitting in flight ready. If you were on an Air Force base they would roll crash, fire and rescue 10 out of 10 times. It was hilarious, but hate to think what breathing all that smoke in did to my lungs.
