The old A5's are like tractors. A little rough to drive but they always get the job done. AND they are still running a hundred years later.

Nobody is a bigger fan of the Auto 5 than I am, but there’s very little to gripe about with the A5 I’ve used for a few years now…..aside from having an overly long receiver (for 3” guns). It has some improvements over Benelli inertia stuff, in my mind. My guess is supply side hangups for getting the 20ga to market. It’s so light, I think they’d get some mileage out of a short barreled, PG turkey gun, and same for a straight grip upland special.

You're exactly right. The BPS had a loyal following, but sales must have really declined in the last ten years. The BPS ran from 1977 to early 2020s sometime. I don't hear a lot of young guys talking with excitement about pump shotguns like I did in the 1980s during my high school days.

The bottom load / bottom eject design was always a little strange to me when I owned one, but it worked just fine. I sold mine to my nephew who has killed a truckload of doves with it since. He loves it.

I have a 16 gauge Upland Special I found recently in mint condition. Look forward to shooting it. I grew up on a Ithaca M37 and still turkey hunt with a Turkeyslayer model.

The 20 Ga hunter will start shipping in the next 60 days. There are a few samples out on the market now but no for commercial sale. I will say the one I have shot shoots very well. The 20 Gauge Upland will be early 3rd quarter.

Browning sends these impossibly young, ill-informed reps to the SHOT show, and I appreciate Randy Wakeman educating them on their own product. I would have bet money on that happening. I knew before the video interview even started that Mr. W would know more about the mythical, still-unavailable A5 20 than the Browning rep whose eye was twitching as he strained to say the Hunter 20 is . . . ahem . . . "shipping now."

I love brownings, always been a browning man, but the price/value is not there.
“Turkish walnut” like on every Turkish shotgun that’s flooding the market now.
There’s a LOT of options with shotguns today, very much like pistols.

I agree: I'm not sure if Turkish walnut is a good thing or not. For a long time, the rich, beautiful walnut that was polished to a high gloss on Brownings was called French walnut. During their better quality years, Remington used American black walnut. I wish someone here on ALDEER who knows wood better than I could tell us if all this is just marketing hype or if there's a difference between walnuts.

I am no expert in any way, but some who are have told me that there is definitely a difference between different walnut for gunstocks, based upon type…..Euro, American, or Turkish. I don’t recall the specifics, but high end customs aren’t seen with Turkish walnut very much, I don’t think.

If some think the Silver is a ‘better shotgun’ than the new A5, then they’ll have to acknowledge the Gold being even better than the Silver…..since the Silver is just the Gold downgraded and at a lower price point. . The new A5s vs the Silver/Gold is oranges to grapefruits, anyway. Gas and inertia have different qualities for design and function. The new A5 has some ‘improvements’ in internals/designs over some other inertia guns, while also not over-complicating things to keep the speedload feature. My only real gripe is the receiver length….its looong. EVERYONE has issues trying to maintain quality these days. The folks making guns these days are NOT our grandfathers (or the old, European craftsmen). They’re CNC machines with assemblers, efficiency managers, and bean counters at every step trying to lean out everything. That’s counterintuitive to making guns like they used to be in quality.
