I want to get all of my aunts together and scan their old photos to everyone has them.

Has anyone done this?
What quality scanner should I buy?

You may find it easier and better quality to send them off to be scanned. The cost isn’t that bad - my wife’s brother did it with all of her mom’s pictures.

Just take pictures and build a file. I'd think you'd have better pics than if you scanned it.

Pay a little more and find a local person. I've scaned a few and printed them worked out great . Just be sure you let them dry good before you handle them much. How you scan them matters , set the DPI on the printer right . A lot depends on the pictures itself has to how good it prints .

One thing about scanning pics. Old pics especially will have cracks and small imperfections that are not apparent until you reproduce them

Should be a ton of software options for cleaning up the imperfections

Digital changers everything. Back in the old days we’d photograph the photograph and send out the new negative for leaning it up and they’d make a new negative and prints.

Seriously I’d look at using your iPhone and an App to clean up the images. Just use a well lit area and should work well. I’ve seen commercials for some kind of App that fixes the images proportionately etc…..

If it’s slides, you might look at a model like this. I got one for my dad years ago and it worked well. I can’t attest to how well it works with today’s operating systems, but I see this one has a slide attachment. Most of the slide scanners I’ve seen are hokey; the Canon I got my dad was high quality

On the other hand it looks like they simply make holders for existing scanners. Here’s one for certain Epson models I think
