planted 100lbs of vetch last year. will be planting 150 this year. keep it mowed , usage lessened the taller it got. tolerated the 2 droughts last year (bham area) with ease.
Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers.......... Si Robertson

I've been leaning towards planting vetch this year. In previous years, I've planned clay peas but it has gotten to where I can never get a stand on them. The deer wipe them out within a week or so upon sprouting. Instead of trying to put up some sort of barrier, I am wanting to try vetch. In your experience, does vetch withstand heavy browsing in its early stages of growth? Thanks!

yes
if early browse damage is an issue with any crop, trico from helena chemical is your answer. it’s rendered sheep’s fat, doesn’t smell and does a great job at getting you through those 2-3 weeks of vulnerability

I've never heard of that. Do you just need to spray it one initial time once the peas sprout out of the ground? Or do you have to spray it once a week or so? Thanks.

needs to be enough plant there for it obviously to stick to, 6-8” tall i would guess, could spray earlier if needed respray time is dependent on rainfall. it’s a heavier rate around the perimeter and lighter on the interior. worked great for several small properties that always had trouble getting started
