A few days of R&R for the Irish's. Yesterday was about an 11.5 on a scale of 1-10. We are staying at a place called Walden Retreat. We threw back a few tequilas and watched a beautiful Texas Hill Country sunset last night. Mrs. Irish made a light charcuterie then we enjoyed the big tub. We're throwing in a repeat tonight, except I'm grilling some steaks at the yurt.

I had to Google the tents we are staying in. They are made in South Africa. I went to their site, and I know they most be expensive, because for one they re super high quality and two they don't list the prices on their website. The engineering on these "tents" are extremely substantial. We're out on the deck now and the wind is blowing like... Well... Like West Texas.

Very cool place to stay...

This place reminds me of what I would imagine parts of the African Savannah to be like. Our place on Lookout Mountain is beautiful, but there is a certain appeal to being out here, that I can get into.

my parents stayed at a "tent camp" like that in South Africa a few years ago called Umkumbe Bush Lodge; they said it was amazing. The camp was NOT fenced, they said they had wildlife wander through it regularly including lions, leopards and hyenas. They were told absolutely under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should they leave their tent in the middle of the night. Each tent had a radio and they were told to call if there was an emergency and an armed guide would come to them.

That’s a neat place. We loved our time around Fredericksburg last year. Our favorite wineries in that area were William Chris and Becker.

My daughter goes to college at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. I really like it out that way.

If you like flat barren land, have at it.

If the wind is calm or blowing in the right direction, I bet you could hear turkeys for miles out there in the morning at daylight. I see some bigger trees out there in the first pic I’d like to be sitting under in the morning.

I spent a few months working in the Hill Country in 1977. I rented the oldest house in Mason. It was adobe outside and typical 1950s-60s inside. There's an area of exposed pink granite that we could see from some of the roads. The area that the granite covers escapes me at the moment but it's fairly substantial. And deer! More deer than I had ever seen anywhere every morning and every evening.

A lot of Africa looks just like what Irish posted and a good many places you stay at in the parks look the same as well.

I love it Irish. Seems like a great and relaxing time.

The Texas Hill Country is a wonderful place to be when it ain't summer. I could easily live there.
