Why do government workers think they deserve 8 weeks of paid vacation for their new born, let them use their PTO like everyone else, good lord.
Paid Leave

But who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most?

Well according to what I was told yesterday in another thread it's for sure not waste fraud or abuse!

Does anyone’s employer offer that to female employees? I’ve never worked anywhere that did.

Federal workers get 12 weeks off for birth or adoption and dads get it to.

My wife worked for Cargill. She got 10 weeks first baby and 12 second. Fully paid.

Also, it may not be paid, but by law they have to offer them 8weeks for vaginal birth and 10 for c section. That could have changed, but i believe the family medical leave act requires that.

If it wasn’t for our government robbing us for years causing inflation women would be able to stay at home and be with the child like it should be or at least one parent. The day that 2 had to enter the work force to make it and put kids in daycare was the beginning of big problems and don’t care what anyone says. Nobody will teach a child and care for them like the parents. If this was the case it wouldn’t matter and society would be better.

I’ve worked for 2 separate companies that offer 8 weeks paid time off. I was able to use it for my last one. It’s a nice benefit.

FACT!!!

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

This comes from the government website

The FMLA entitles eligible employees of covered employers to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave. Eligible employees are entitled to:

Twelve workweeks of leave in a 12-month period for:
the birth of a child and to care for the newborn child within one year of birth;
the placement with the employee of a child for adoption or foster care and to care for the newly placed child within one year of placement;
to care for the employee’s spouse, child, or parent who has a serious health condition;
a serious health condition that makes the employee unable to perform the essential functions of his or her job;
any qualifying exigency arising out of the fact that the employee’s spouse, son, daughter, or parent is a covered military member on “covered active duty;” or
Twenty-six work weeks of leave during a single 12-month period to care for a covered service member with a serious injury or illness if the eligible employee is the servicemember’s spouse, son, daughter, parent, or next of kin (military caregiver leave).

I guess this law did not apply to state workers or does it and the new state law adds an additional 8 weeks, paid to the total.

But who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most?

If I muss eight weeks of work for any reasons , I'd be replaced, but I guess it's these people who are used to getting 26 weeks a year off that are going to start, roofing and manufacturing cars, when their job gets doged

FMLA is a joke unless it is used right for what it was meant for. My wife is in upper management and tells me horror stories of people using it.

Its been around a long time. I've heard of a couple people that used it. I could have to help when the wife had our kids but didn't. I always thought it was crazy.

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Absolutely absurd especially for the father. I have had 3 kids. First one was normal and everything was smooth and I used 5 days vacation because it was the first child. Second child delivery went south due to no fault of our own which led to that child living 11 days in the NICU and I took however many work days fell in that time frame of my vacation time then one day bereavement for his funeral. The third child came via surrogacy because of complications from child # 2 and I took two days of vacation then and those days were the days the surrogate was in the hospital post birth(he was born after work one afternoon) because we were given our own personal room to be with the baby. I never once felt that my employer owed me any paid time off for "child birth" other than the vacation time that I took and I only get two weeks vacation annually. Once again the want something for free world strikes again.

A lot of larger international companies are starting to offer paid paternity leave but I think it’s typically around 4 weeks paid leave. Most of those companies offer 8 weeks paid maternity leave. Seems like the state is just keeping up with the current trends in employment.

My wife had to use her PTO then unpaid FMLA after giving birth to our kiddo. Her PTO was not even half of the recovery time then we got to survive on one paycheck until she could physically go back to work, which her being a middle school teacher at the time pretty much meant she needed to be fully recovered. To my knowledge the state of SC still doesn’t offer paid maternity leave but that may have changed since we had our kid.

Look I’m very much a limited, small government person, however I won’t cry foul over paid leave that keeps up with the private sector.

If it encourages native citizens to start a family, I'm all for it.

If you can take 8 weeks straight off without things going to hell, then you are pretty redundant at your place of employment.
