is there anything I can spray on poison ivy in my flower beds to kill it off without harming the shrubbery? There's not a ton, and it's on the ground around/between the shrubs.
If spraying is too risky, would covering it in mulch (which I'm about to put down anyway) kill it off or will it just pop up through the mulch?

Been googling and consensus is that covering in mulch will kill it and keep it from coming up. I’m gonna try that first and I’ll try some sort of herbicide if it keeps coming back after that

Cut a piece of rags (scrap carpet is best) that is about 1” wider than a mason jar lid (the flat part). Put the rag/carpet on the end of a wooden mop handle, broom handle, etc, by nailing the carpet and mason jar lid on the wooden handle. You’re basically making a herbicide dobber, with the rags/carpet against the wooden handle with the steel lid on bottom.
Put about a cup of roundup or preferred herbicide in an old 1 gallon paint can or something similar, and gently moisten the dobber in the herbicide. You want to moisten the herbicide dobber, but not so much as to have it where it will drip off…and kill other plants. Carefully dob the herbicide on the weeds, while making sure not to touch anything but the weeds with the dobber. Mr Frank House taught us this years ago at Oak Grove High School.

The last time I got in this crap, I took a leak before I knew I had it on my hands and spent the next 4 days in hell. If I can throw some mulch on it instead of getting up in the middle of it, I’m gonna give it a shot.

Spray it it will come up through the mulch.

The poison ivy is probably coming from the mulch. When they grind up logs and whatever else they may have, the ivy is still on them. I always spray mulch before I put it down No mulch in the beds currently, and hasn't been in at least 4 years....I would occasionally throw some pine straw in them that I raked out of the yard, but even that's been gone for a while

Experienced that misfortune myself. It doesn’t seem to bother me like it used to. A couple years ago when it got light enough to see I realized I was sitting in it but I never bothered me.

I'll be 40 next month....I could roll around in it with no problem my entire life, until about a year ago. Got it on my arms and legs a little, and apparently on my hands...suddenly I'm now allergic to it. I did my best to avoid it the other day when I was cutting shrubs way back and ripping several out, but just to be safe I immediately went inside and took a hot shower, and scrubbed with a rag and some Dawn to make sure any of the oils that may have gotten on me were removed. Seems to have worked.

I spray it around my shrubs with Gly and no problems. I did get some over spray once and killed one. Just be careful and dont have your sprayer set on a fine mist that will carry in the wind and you will be fine. If your really worried get a big piece of cardboard or a tarp around your shrubs so you dont get overspray on them. Wear rubber boots and get in there with it man.
Its not the will to win but the will to prepare to win!
