well - it appears that my GF & I have been scammed by a couple on Facebook - we bought a truck from them & it blew the engine on the way home

we are in need of a low mileage (preferably) good condition/running 300 inline 6 engine for a 95 F150 2wd pickup - location is Lamar County - the closer to Sulligent the better ‘cause that’s where our mechanic is located

pls PM me with leads on one - thx!

If you don't find a decent used one, I think Jasper Engines sells one for that truck

Any used engine will be 30 or more years old. When you say you blew the motor, what happened? If the head is good, you could just go with a short block. 95 F150s are solid trucks, I have one.

the main bearing broke & it’s got rod knock like a SOB & 0 power - the truck won’t budge - i’m keeping the engine & may eventually get around to rebuilding it - but for time’s sake & to get back up & running, an engine replacement is the best option

what short block will bolt up to the existing manual tranny? we want the 300 I6 engine TBH - when it’s taken care of correctly (unlike the one in it now), they are bulletproof

Good luck. That's the best motor Ford ever made. Wonder what he did to get it in that condition.

it was the dude’s wife who drove the truck - best guess is she drove it with no oil - but they both knew the engine was on it’s last leg - they filled the crankcase full of oil additive so it passed the test drive sniff test … i thought i was thorough enough on my inspection, questioning, crawling around underneath & in the engine bay, etc - but adding airplane oil/oil additive is a new one on me

onward & upward from here - it’s a great truck otherwise

The head should be ok. If you spun a main bearing, I would recommend looking for a short block. Most likely that is going to fastest and cheapest route. One or two day job. Most rebuilders want a good core, but you can pay the core charge and keep your old motor if you want to build it yourself.

I had an 84 Ford van with a 300 6 in it and put 136k miles on it. Van looked great and a friend bought it and put another 100K on it. Then he drove it to California to work and sold it to a friend of his and HE put another 100K on it. I wish they still made that motor.

When they changed the body style in 1997 they shortened the hood where those 300 cubic inches stacked in a straight line wouldn't fit.. I understand that they still make the motor' it's used in UPS trucks, airport luggage tractors, and the like. That's from a few years back; not sure if it's still true or not. At any rate, it was a great motor. I had it in a couple of truck. Unbelievable amounts of low end torque.

Yep - we had a farm truck that had that engine.

It was my preferred truck for getting hay out of the field (put it in granny and walk along beside, jump back in to make the turn and split the bales) - my stepdad swapped to a flat bed and we used a goose-neck trailer. It wouldn't stop great with a full load (didn't have a trailer brake controller in the truck), but it could pull it.

My 240 ran with two rod caps backwards for years, then sat for 15, before I got it and drove it some more. Had decent oil pressure and only a little bottle end rattle before I pulled it to refresh the head. No telling how long it would have ran.

the shop with the used 300 I6 called this morning - they started pulling it out of the truck - will pick it up & deliver to my mechanic tomorrow … fortunately he’s not bad booked up so hopefully we’ll be back in business next week, get the truck registered, and enjoy the truck

Awesome! Uncle had a 96 SWB 4x4 with the 4.9 and 5 speed. That was 30 years ago and I can still hear the sound of that truck cranking. Lot of hunting trips in that old Ford.

Damn. I hate that. Great trucks.

I wish I hadn't sold my 1996 4x4 with the 4.9.

Now every time my guy some so to mow my grass and weed eat, I get jealous seeing my old truck hauling lawnmowers.
