I’ve been done since April 4’th until I go to Washington next week after some Merriams. Trying to live vicariously through you guys but nobody is posting up any stories or pictures. Can’t remember it ever being this quiet on this board in mid April.
How’s everyone’s season going?

How’s everyone’s season going? I was thinking the same the other day. We have lost some great old time members of the forum that just contributed with some great posting

How’s everyone’s season going? Hold up. You killed 4 in 2 weeks and you’re living vicariously through us?? 🤔. Helluva season for you! Congrats man! I haven’t set up on a gobbling bird until this past Monday and he was never closer than 200 yards. I’m fortunate my buddy took me on his place where I killed one. I haven’t missed more than 2 days in a row being out here. That’s how my season is going.

Season started out great with a good bit of action.
But it’s Been a tough row to hoe in my area for almost 2weeks.
Minimal gobbling, hens nesting, and a pretty good bit of wind.

It has been a blessed season so far considering the terrible weather. It has been like hunting in the middle of summer in south Bama. I'm headed north tomorrow good lord willing with tags that are burning a hole in my pocket. Maybe I'll get lucky, and one will mess up.

My season started great, killed 3 in the first week and then it has taken a turn for the worse. Haven't been on a bird in 2 weeks, and had truck broken into while hunting. But I'm still blessed more than I deserve. Good luck to everyone and Happy early Easter.

Heard 15 Friday before season came in from one spot. Heard 3 there opening day and killed one that Wednesday. Haven’t heard but one bird from that spot since. I’ve called up a couple more with no shot opportunity and called one in for a friend that missed in other locations. When I do find birds that are gobbling they seem to shut up as soon as I think I’m in the game. No luck striking any up during the day and I’ve only heard 2 birds gobble in the afternoon all season and they were both on neighbors.

Absolutely! In years past I could punch out some tags and there was always my wife and boys to guide for. This year my wife killed hers on opening day and then I went to work on them. Kids are grown and have jobs and responsibilities so they never go with me anymore and my wife is satisfied with one. So here I am sitting at home every weekend which hurts my soul lol.

I typically shoot 3-4 per season myself. So far among maybe 3-4 of us... We got 2 in March. Nothing since.
Our birds have been still bunched up with multiplie gobblers still mixed in with the large flocks of hens. I don't know what that means but it's been a weird season so far. Almost like they are not breeding yet. I'm not hearing the gobbling and I'm not seeing the flock break up like they normally do this time of year. Just because we heard some gobbling and killed a few early doesn't mean much to me. They are Turkeys... they do Turkey things. Gobblers gobble.
A lot of Ground Blind hunters out there... Because they ambushed one out of a ground blind doesn't mean anything in relation to the Turkeys either. I have a guy that works for me that can't even call and he's killed 2 so far from a ground blind. You have to factor those people in when you are talking about who's killed what that you are hearing. On some level there is no longer any skill involved or necessary with this Turkey hunting thing.
Most people I have talked with that I consider actual Turkey hunters are having a tough year.

And that may be the case... they may be completely done. It's been a weird year no doubt. I'm not seeing the nesting hens. TN season just opened and there was no action up there for us either we went Monday.
We'll keep going... but this has become a no skill required sport and has lost it's luster a bit for me.

Almost like they are not breeding yet. I'm not hearing the gobbling and I'm not seeing the flock break up like they normally do this time of year. At the end of February, we still had a flock of 16 hens with one gobbler and a jake. They never broke up... hens just started disappearing one by one day by day until there were none. I've NEVER seen that many hens with one mature gobbler before... and it's not because we don't have more in the area. I wondered if it's in part due to the lack of food in the woods from early this year. We had zero acorns this year and the fresh cutover that's there didn't have any food in it at the time.

Should have started March 15th. Gobblers have been strutting for hens since February.
