First time I had it didn't know what it was and the dr. said I waited way too long to come in as it was badly infected.

I am 54 and didnt start getting it until 2 years ago. I would eat and it would be coming out before I was done eating. Finally went to Dr and of course they asked why I didnt come in sooner, I had a scan to confirm but Dr called it before hand. I can now tell when its coming on and get some antibiotics for it. I also drink a glass of Meta Mucli and day that seems to help too.

Someone on here also mention drinking a can of Buffalo Rock Gingerale every day. The ginger is supposed to help.

I got buddy who found out he had diverticulitis last Monday. Dr put him on antibiotics and on Friday he said he was feeling much better. About 10:30pm last night he was calling me so I knew something must be up so I answered and turns out he got in so much pain he called the ambulance to come get him at 11:30am while his family was Easter service. As of 10:30pm he said the morphine wasn't even helping with the pain. He was doped up on morphine and new to this but I believe he said he had a perforation that burst or is near bursting and they are planning to drain it this morning. I text him a few minutes ago but not response yet.

I had it. Had a colonoscopy to look at it. Found Stage 1 cancer. Had surgery and had it and the cancer removed. All good since then. Doc said the diverticulitis saved my life.

doctor wanted to diagnose me with it after getting sick on vacation, I never did go to the hospital like he told me to, but a day later my wife got real sick too. so I was sure it wasn't diverticulitis but rather NORA virus. He kept saying diverticulitis and in my head I was saying " oh heck no, that's your world not mine". but I got to stay humble cause I probably will get it at some point. Terrible affliction.

From what I have read is that high blood pressure is a major contributor to this. Causes the pockets and problems, in the colon first, then escalates into more serious disease. ugh.

I've worked hard to manage diverticulosis & diverticulitis for 10 years. This sequence is a pain in the tail -- ahem, pun intended -- but will keep you out of pain and mostly away from antibiotics. Begin a routine of getting up early enough every morning to follow this sequence:

(1) drink 9 ounces of hot water
(2) drink 9 ounces of prune juice (yuk . . . I know; I dislike it every morning)
(3) drink a large cup of hot coffee (with or without creamer)
(4) let that sit on your stomach calmly for at least 30 minutes before eating
(5) allow sufficient bathroom time before trying to drive to work

It takes several mornings to find out how the routine works with your plumbing. It's still good to keep a bottle of Milk of Magnesia on hand for times when you feel a bad flareup coming on to avoid antibiotics, but most of the year this sequence/routine will keep your large intestine relatively calm and happy.

My wife has had it off and on for years. Saturday morning she got up and said she had a flair up with it.
She keeps antibiotics and another med for it on hand so she got them started. We had a wedding to go to Saturday evening so
we went but couldn’t stay for all the shindig. Missed Easter services Sunday, been in terrible pain all weekend.
Got up Monday morning still hurting so I told her we needed to get it checked out.
This morning she had an appendectomy around 8:00, got back to her room after post op for a few hours and got home by 4:00.
The doc said it was just a slow simmer so everything was good.
I’m glad we got it checked out!
