If you’re buying another upper with rails to mount thermal or night vision on an existing AR15 5.56 platform for hunting hogs, deer, varmints under 300 yards, is the better choice another 5.56/.223/.223 Wylde or 300 Blackout or 6.5 Grendel?? Not suppressed for now but possibly in the future. I’m getting confused looking at these options. .223 cheaper ammo but 300 Blackout more stopping power. Is 6.5 Grendel a better option than 300 Blackout? Enlighten me Aldeer brethren.

Of the three 6.5G would be my pick. I like my blackouts and my Grendels but I don’t like to shoot the 300blk past 200(it still kills with the 110s beyond).
I don’t like 5.56 for much but plinking.

I wouldn't discount the 350 legend in an AR platform for your intended purpose.

I know a guy that had owned all of them and then some. His go to is the 6mm ARC now. He is in the hog control business if that matters.
He’s a shooter and I mean shoots year around and all things.
I’ve been somewhat curious about the 6mm ARC

If I was strictly hunting varmints I would stick with the.223wylde/5.56 for the ammo availability and cost. The Grendel is my choice for a do all round but it cost a little more to shoot.

The grendel is the best choice for all of the intended game mentioned. Basically at 400 yds the grendel has about the same ballistics as a .308 with half the recoil. Thats using a 150 gr bullet in a .308 vs a 123 gr in the grendel

Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

I need to upgrade my nite vis at some point. I’m still rocking a gen3 PVS-4. It’s about as heavy as my rifle😂

I've tried to talk myself into upgrading my hog rifle to something other than .223 but find it difficult to fix something that is not broke, I shot hogs 3-4 nights a week year round with no issues as long as I take the proper shot. I am entertaining trying a suppressor.

Badlands ammo will give you some more fps with their specialized cases of 5.56

I Don’t see hunting ammunition on Badlands and they say they’re remanufactured ammo. Actually it looks like they have but are out of stock.

They use Barnes bullets from what I’d read. There’s some videos on performance and as impressive in longer barrels.

Basically the ammo uses specialized cases that handle pressure much better than brass so those round can be loaded to a higher pressure.

Not sure as to how valid that is but it’s their claim.
