I worked as a maintenance tech in a chicken plant for a couple years. You would not believe how disgusting the mess is behind some safety guards that hadn't been taken off in a while. 🤢

Just grosses me out. Sticking my hand in a warm chicken, the smell of the wet feathers. Even the killing of the chickens. Its just not for me. I guess im a sissy That’s common Joseph and you’re definitely not a sissy. You get up high in trees I would never climb. I had a friend whose job growing up was to kill the chickens for his father for dinner. He had to process them and got so disgusted growing up he could never eat or kill a chicken again. We would go eat out and he would say no yardbird for me. And he was a scout sniper so it can happen to anyone. Blood, smell whatever else about it triggers the reaction.

Having lived the country farm life for a while and if Grand maw bought some beef or pork from the grocer or we had some birds , rabbits and squirrles put up in the freezer ,the only other way me and my brothers got to eat meat on the farm was , Grand Maw would say you want some meat for dinner, then go to the chicken pen grab a couple of hens kill em clean em and bring em to me.... we either slaughtered some chickens, prepped them or dinner consisted of veggies which by the way when your hungry you'll eat that or go to bed hungry. Four boys can flat knock down what came from the garden , out of the woods and from the grocery store. Did it turn our stomachs ....no sir, we were too hungry for that.

I can buy or hatch my own chickens, house, feed, water, medicate, kill, pluck, evicerate, and cut them up for a few dollars more than I can go to the gro. store and buy one already killed, plucked, disassembled and cooked. That said, I do have chickens for the eggs, but up until the price of eggs went sky high, that was a losing deal too.

The princeple here is growing our own so that we know where theyve been and whats in them. It was a noble idea. I might try it again. I wasnt set up good for it. I think i can make it a little better just being more prepared and having a better system

There was a time that it wouldn't have bothered me one bit, in the words of William Munny, "I've killed everything that walks or crawls at one time or another.", but I feel pretty confident that I couldn't do it now.
"The struggle you're in today, is developing the strength you need for tomorrow."

I don't mind any of it. I like killing something wild or something I raised to eat. Chickens do flop around alot and make a mess no matter how you killem though Yeah, i shot em in the head with a suppressed 22 pistola. Some of them jumped around like a kangaroo

My buddy did 75 chickens last year. He sent pictures and detailed it. I told him I’ll buy them from the store and break them down. I wish your buddy was closer. I would supply the chickens and let him dress them on the halves
