You’re right, that’s absolutely a qualified opinion. You thought you had a plan, even though it turns out you didn’t quite. And that’s fair.

But some jobs and fields just flat out require a degree. Some take it even higher and require a masters. So it’s either A.) only rich people’s kids will be able to do it, thus making class differences even more glaring.. or B.) H1B visa workers will come from overseas where it was much cheaper to get the qualified education.. and if I know one thing, it’s that people here love immigrants.

In some cases you might get more employers offering reimbursement but they’d strongly prefer to just pay someone who’s in a work visa than invest the money in a worker who could die, move, quit, whatever.

I’m not pitching anything specific but things do need to change. More grants for school, lower/removed interest rates, and most of all more pressure on schools to stop gouging.

Nothing pissed me off more when I was at Auburn than watching them build a $92m football facility that as far as I can tell hasn’t helped the team win a game.
