I'm interested too. I'm in the same boat as y'all.

And I agree with you boker that its critical that we all be on the same page from the beginning. I want to hunt, not deal with drama.

I'll wear my earplugs while y'all sing rocky top.

Sounds good if the drive is managable for me. I would have to have a place to park my camper for overnight stays with the price of gas. Also would want restrictions agreed on 1st. WHats a TN out of state cost now days. I got a lifetime for BAma. I called 4-5 people in North Law Co. yesterday about leases. NO LUCK

You boys better get your pocket books ready. Just the license cost in TN is 256.00. Then be ready to shell out another 1000 for the lease and green fields. The days of 500 dollar clubs are over unless your willing to have lots of members on less land.

Dang that is high dollar for a TN lease, I know of several and have been in one other big club and none are that high! The big lease I am in now in TN is still at the $4.00 or $4.25 an acre mark for 1300 acres. Our membership is in the $380 range for 12 or 14 of us. I will check with our paper company and go from there because I am tired of not having another big place to hunt a turkey on. License is going to cost some people, but I have a lifetime there so that is not something I worry with. I will make some calls this week or next to our paper company and see if there is anything open and go from there. There has to be something out there for us North AL guys to lease up as a group.

Call if you want to but leases are due in June and late in July. That's when you will ne able to find out what's open and what's not. The only thing you will find now is places that were not leased this year. Call Nancy Mathis at Sustainable Forest Management in Waynesboro TN. Leases are cheaper in TN but you make up for it in out of state license cost. Seems like they charge a recreation tax in TN also but I could be wrong. I haven't hunted up there in several years. If you pay 380 you damn sure better hang on to it.

I'd be very interested in joining as well, if you guys had the room. I've looked high and low since moving to Athens and just haven't had any luck. I did make a few calls to paper companies in Tenn back during the summer but all I could find was in Wayne Co and westward. Too far for me to get any real use out of it. Had a line on an 80 and 60 in Lawrence Co but was a day late, as usual.

I did get in on a spot 5 min from the house but it's 80 percent open fields. It would be ok if it was 2, maybe 3 folks but at 5K we needed 5 members to make it manageable. I'm just bidding my time till the right place comes along.

Well I count 9 folks on here so far that are interested. If we can agree on ground rules and find suitable land within a reasonable driving distance we may have something going. I know of one other guy in Ardmore who may be interested also. That's 10.

I'm good with $1000 if the place warrants it and I can hunt with like minded folks. I'm good with more than that under the right circumstances.

Wayne county is going to be our best bet because it has the most paper company land in big parcels, but it is a haul still and that isn't what I want. There are a few in Lawrence, that I need to check on. I want something in Giles or Lincoln or maybe one of the counties north of them. I know most of the big clubs in Giles and have hunted most of the big ones or know someone that is in them now.

As for rules I like them simple. Follow the state regs, shoot what makes you happy, respect others, if you don't like it move on or you will not be asked for a check when dues are up the next year. We NEVER have an opening, everyone gets along, we kill good deer, and everyone knows where everyone else hunts.

100 per member is about right for deer hunters to keep the price right it seems.

I wish you boys luck trying to find a place in Giles or Lincoln co. I don't think there's any papermill land in those county's. I know the company that used to be IP doesn't have any. If you lease papermill land it will be in Wayne, Lewis or MAYBE if your lucky Lawrence. Your best bet is west Alabama to find a big lease.
